With our Agency's mission to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses, we provide a complete array of medical and support services for children, adults, and families throughout South Carolina.

Position will have a hire/start date of July 2, 2024, or later.

Position is located at the Department of Mental Health, Waccamaw Center for Mental Health, 164 Waccamaw Medical Park Drive, Conway, SC 29526.

Under general supervision, you will serve as Mobile Crisis clinician providing services listed above in a timely manner. The primary function of this position is to divert hospitalization during the mental health crisis and provide on-call back up for person of our catchment area.

This position may include nights, weekends and holidays and eligible for on call pay. On call work normally includes law enforcement. involvement. Employee will use their own vehicle for on call shifts and be reimbursed for mileage as well as additional pay for these shifts.

Responsibilities for the Mental Health Professional I include but is not limited to:

  • Provide mental health services requiring specialized diagnostic and treatment intervention skills to include screening, assessment, crisis intervention, community crisis intervention, individual therapy, family therapy, group therapy, completion of judicial forms for probate court with individuals and other approved services.

  • Formulate level of care recommendations and disposition.

  • Educate clients on community resources and make arrangements for immediate disposition regarding transfers and referrals.

  • Serve as a provider of crisis intervention, by administering brief individual and/or family intervention to address crisis and identify triggers for crisis behavior to include development of crisis safety plan up to initiating the process of involuntary commitment/hospitalization if needed.

  • Maintain documentation of charts and other records in accordance with State, Federal, Local, SCDMH, WCMH, Quality Assurance, Corporate Compliance and CARF Standards.

  • Complete and submit clinical service notes within a 24-hour period in accordance with local collaborative documentation standards.

  • Knowledge of the scope and range of services provided in a comprehensive community mental health program serving adults and children and understanding the unique treatment needs of this population. Capacity to establish and maintain effective working relations with clients, families, and representative of other professional disciplines. Ability to communicate effectively.

  • Employee shall be self-directed and motivated, functioning independently and exercising good clinical judgement.

  • Supervision will be provided according to WCMH's current supervision policy.

  • Annual Employee Performance Management System in place for all DMH employees.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

STATE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

A master's degree from an accredited program, university, or college in psychology, social work, counseling, marriage and family counseling or other behavioral discipline deemed equivalent by SC Department of Mental Health. Must be eligible to become a notary in the state of South Carolina.

In order to satisfy DMH Credentialing Requirements, you must show graduate level coursework including the following:

Psychopathology Course

Psychopathology Diagnostic Course

Clinical Assessment - Practice with Family Therapy (DSM) - or any related assessment course

Ethics Course - related to medical profession.

Please be sure to attach a copy of your unofficial transcript for master's degree. This is required to verify eligibility for credentialing. This is a credentialed position.

Preferred Qualifications

Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.
