JOB OPPORTUNITY

We're looking for registered nurses who are passionate about providing high-quality care to vulnerable patients in a collaborative community setting! As a Mental Health Nurse, you will provide a combination of direct service and nursing care management to members of the Berkeley community who are dealing with severe mental illness.

Our small outpatient clinic serves 260 patients, with varying levels of need, who are on Medi-Cal or uninsured. In addition to illnesses like schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, many of our patients deal with substance use disorder. We work with patients in an Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) model as well as more traditional models, across programs such as our Homeless Full Services Partnership, Comprehensive Community Treatment, and Focus on Independence.

In this role, you will collaborate with and learn from high-caliber colleagues throughout the Mental Health Division in a team-based model, with case managers for all patients and great administrative support.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is:

Equivalent to graduation from a two-year accredited college or university with major course work in nursing and one (1) year as a registered nurse in a mental health setting or completion of a three-month senior preceptorship in mental health nursing. The relevant experience or preceptorship must have been completed in the past five (5) years.

Other requirements include:

  • Possession of a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of California

  • Able to travel to various locations within and outside the City of Berkeley to meet the program needs and to fulfill the job responsibilities. Must maintain a valid California driver's license and satisfactory driving record when driving on City business.

  • Must be comfortable providing services in the clinic, in patients' homes, and in homeless encampments

In addition to the qualifications above, successful candidates will demonstrate knowledge of mental illness, substance use disorders, and physical health conditions. Our ideal candidate can perform comprehensive nursing assessments, conduct thorough mental status examinations, and demonstrate a working knowledge of psychotherapeutic treatments and psychotropic medications.

EXAM PROCESS

The exam process will include, but is not limited to:
