The Mental Health Counselor must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to patients ranging in age from young adult through adulthood and geriatrics. The Mental Health Counselor must possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient 's age, and interpret the appropriate information required to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specifics needs. Education


Collaborates with multidisciplinary team in providing care to individuals with severe and persistent mental illness and co-morbid medical and addiction disorders. Performs regular safety checks and communicates findings with Charge nurse.

Performs tasks delegated by the charge nurse. Leads and co leads therapeutic groups and engages patients in milieu activities. Prior Human service experience preferred.


Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology, Sociology or related Human Service Area is preferred.

Phoenix House Dorchester Center is a long-term residential family substance abuse treatment facility for women and their children of all ages, from newborns to adolescents. In a warm and safe environment that feels like home, the program provides drug and alcohol abuse treatment that is woman-centered and trauma-informed, with a goal of successful family reunification. Our skilled professional staff is dedicated to helping women overcome substance dependence and empowering them to achieve productive, drug-free lives. The Center also provides referrals to social service agencies throughout the Boston area to assist clients with childcare, afterschool programs, and treatment for co-occurring mental health needs. We are located on the campus of St. Mary’s Women and Children’s Center, a community-based, multiservice agency that provides support services, including education and job training, to adult women as well as pregnant and parenting teens. St. Mary’s Campus is also home to Phoenix Families, our highly successful emergency shelter and re-housing program for mothers and children. Phoenix House Dorchester Center has a FT opening for a Senior Substance Abuse Clinician of our residential substance abuse program serving 14 Women with their Children. The position requires an experienced licensed clinician with knowledge of Mental Health and Substance Abuse. Duties include a combination of administrative, supervision, clinical work and residential coverage: primary responsibility is to oversee admissions to all levels of care, conducting assessments, interviews and insurance reviews as well as using evidenced-based groups and practices in our residential programs. Position includes providing coverage on the unit and some evening and weekend hours required and supervision of clinical interns and recovery specialists. REQUIREMENTS: EDUCATION/CREDENTIALS: * Minimum of a Master’s degree in related field. * State of Massachusetts certification as a Master Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (MLADC), Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW), Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) or Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) required. * Valid Massachusetts driver’s license and clean driving record required. EXPERIENCE: * Previous clinical supervisory experience in a substance abuse treatment.
