The Position

Psychiatric Nurses provide professional nursing care to individuals with developmental delays, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities or social, emotional and/or behavioral disorders, in an institution or out-patient setting in accordance with the authorized scope of practice specified in the Nurse Practice Act.

Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.

This position supports Southern Nevada Adult Mental Health Services (SNAMHS) and is in the Residential department, located at 6161 W. Charleston Blvd., Las Vegas, NV.The mission of the agency is to help adults with mental illness improve their quality of life.

Incumbents actively participate in a multidisciplinary team managing a wide variety of patients and diagnoses. Dynamic work responsibilities include assessing and identifying patient health care needs; making comprehensive clinical observations and evaluations; prepare nursing care plans; administering medications as prescribed by a physician or designee; monitoring patients for medication side effects and/or allergic reaction. The position will also provide crisis intervention and help develop safety plan recommendations for patients; and ensure compliance with CMS standards, as well as established laws, regulations and SNAMHS policies.This is an Outpatient Nursing full-time position Monday through Friday from 8AM-5PM.

Incumbents will be working an innovative variable schedule with overtime after 40 hours per week. Please ensure your application reflects your current nursing license information. This should be included in the "license" section of your application.

To Qualify:

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse and two years of professional nursing experience, one of which included working in a facility or institution with individuals with mental illness, developmental disabilities or intellectual disabilities; OR one year as a Psychiatric Nurse I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Notes Out of state applicants must have a temporary license as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing at the time of appointment and must obtain permanent licensure as a Registered Nurse issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing as a condition of continuing employment.

Special Requirements A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items. Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety.

Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. CPR certification is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.

Our Agency's mission is to help adults with mental illness improve their quality of life. Through a team approach, we provide innovative inpatient and outpatient mental health services for the Southern Nevada community. Some of the valuable services we provide include Psychiatric Emergency Services, Inpatient Services, Mobile Crises, Outpatient Counseling, Service Coordination, Intensive Service Coordination, Medication Clinic, Residential Support Programs, Mental Health Court, Consumer Advocacy and Programs for Assertive Community Treatment (PACT) teams. Inpatient services are provided through the new Rawson-Neal Psychiatric Hospital. Outpatient services are provided through four mental health clinics located throughout the Las Vegas community and four rural locations. We are accredited by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations. The Mental Health Technician (MHT) 4 takes vital signs, and documents findings in the electronic record. MHT's will be called upon to assist with select nursing procedures and plan and implement daily care for assigned patients, observing consumers for changes in physical, mental or emotional status. The Mental Health Technician is charged to use appropriate self-defense and take-down techniques and respond quickly and appropriately to medical and psychiatric emergencies.
