School of Law Mental Health Clinician
Responsible for short-term behavioral health intervention, brief solution focused therapy, clinical consultation and referrals for University of Akron Law students. Clinician will work during fall semester, spring semester and the beginning of the summer semester.
The position is funded through the end of June 2025. The clinician will provide services in an office in the School of Law. Clinician will see law students who drop in for brief solution focused services, psycho-education and/or brief therapy.
The clinician will provide services 2 days a week. This may include some early evening hours to align with School of Law class hours. Hours and days of work are negotiable.
The position reports to the University of Akron Counseling and Testing Center, in consultation with the Assistant and Associate Dean of the Law School.
Essential functions:
Provide brief supportive counseling services for law students who drop in with concerns.
Conduct law student intakes, clinical assessment, psycho-education, and crisis intervention.
Demonstrate an understanding of law student's unique emotional, developmental and academic needs.
Provide short-term, solution focused counseling services to aid student progress and retention.
Facilitate referrals with campus constituents as needed.
Additional Position Information:
Education: Requires a minimum of a master's degree in counseling, social work or related mental health field; PhD or Psy.D. (APA accredited) in clinical or counseling psychology.
Licenses/Certifications/Requirements: Licensed as LPCC, LISW in the State of Ohio; Licensed as a psychologist in the State of Ohio.
Experience: A minimum of a year of experience and competency providing counseling and psychotherapy, urgent and crisis assessment, short-term psychotherapy, and group facilitation.
Ability to work with law school/higher education population, to work independently and in a behavioral health team. Experience working in higher education setting and/or college or university counseling center is desired and not required. Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
Multicultural knowledge, skills and ability to work with underrepresented populations required. Interest or experience in working with behavioral health community agencies or similar professional settings helpful.

Compensation: The compensation for this position is commensurate with experience.
