Longwood University invites applications for the position of Director of Program & Character Development / General Manager, Men's Basketball (GA077). The successful candidate will directly support the Head Coach of Men's Basketball on various program matters, including among others, program development initiatives and oversight of character, leadership and life-skill development. The Director of Program & Character Development / General Manager, Men's Basketball will serve as a link between the coaching staff, players, university administration, and external partners, ensuring alignment with the program's vision and goals. This position will work to support players in navigating the opportunities and challenges that come with being a student-athlete at the highest level. Overall, this position offers a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on the growth and success of the Men's Basketball Program both on and off the court.
Responsibilities:
Develop and implement innovative strategies to help players enhance their personal and professional skill sets, including individualized character and leadership development programs, mentorship opportunities, and coordinating life skills education
Collaborate with coaches and support staff to create a positive and transformative team culture that prioritizes academic success, personal growth, and athletic achievement
Coordinate community service initiatives for the basketball program, organizing volunteer opportunities, charitable events, and outreach programs to give back to the local community and university
Serve as a liaison between players, coaching staff, and university administration to facilitate NIL opportunities while ensuring compliance with NCAA regulations and institutional policies
Oversee the implementation of comprehensive NIL education programs to empower student-athletes to make informed decisions about branding, marketing, and entrepreneurial ventures
Capitalize on strategic partnerships. In coordination and approval of athletic administration, establish and maintain relationships with local businesses, alumni networks, and industry professionals to identify and secure NIL partnerships for student-athletes
Foster campus and student engagement by collaborating with university departments, student organizations, and campus leaders to promote basketball events and enhance the student experience
Represent the program and the university with professionalism and integrity at conferences, events, and networking opportunities related to the Men's Basketball Program
Job Requirements:
Master's Degree preferred, or Bachelor's degree with equivalent training and work experience
Extensive amount of coaching work experience at the Division I level
Previous experience as a NCAA Division I college basketball player preferred
A strong commitment to the Student-Athlete concept and a working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations
Demonstrated ability to perform physical activities associated with the sport of basketball
Must be willing to meet University eligibility to drive state fleet vehicles, including vans or mini-buses

This position is a full-time, administrative & professional faculty, exempt position. A successful criminal background investigation is required. AmeriCorps, Peace Corps, and other national service alumni are encouraged to apply.
