Carillon is recruiting for a hospitality focused ISH "I'm Still Here" Specialist / Memory Care Activities Specialist to join our team!

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

The ISH "I'm Still Here" Memory Care Activities Specialist is responsible for creating a daily flow of life in the neighborhood that includes personal care, recreational and social activities. The Memory Care Activities Specialist will assist in creating and leading focused and purpose-driven activities; provide meaningful social interactions and roles, and help each resident feel a sense of belonging to a community. The Memory Care Activities Specialist will assure that the neighborhood is neat and in order. The Memory Care Activities Specialist will assist in training and provide support to all staff members in their recreational roles.

Here are a few of the daily responsibilities of an ISH "I'm Still Here" Memory Care Activities Specialist:

  • Assists the Memory Care Program Director in running the ISH program with special care in addressing interests, needs and abilities of all residents.

  • Assists in planning of the ISH Program monthly activity calendar, keeping in consideration the balancing of social, psychosocial, physical, and spiritual and emotional activities.

  • Under the supervision and direction of the MCP Director prepares, on a weekly basis, activities schedules for all levels of programming.

  • Works with the Management Team to train, supervise, and assist CNAs in the facilitation of activities.

  • Runs activity groups on a daily basis, during the time period that the CNAs would be assisting residents with toileting.

  • Works with the MCP Director and the Nurse Manager to assist in managing the CNAs to ensure multiple activities are running between the hours of 10:00 AM and 7:00 PM.

  • Under the director of the MCP Director, assembles all materials for activities and communicates to Management Team and CNAs the location of supplies.

  • Accompanies residents on outings and arranges transportation as needed so that residents can participate in appropriate leisure activities in the community.

  • Responsible for ensuring that the resident environment reflects the appropriate seasonal décor and is neat and in order.

  • Utilizes the ISH Program curriculum to provide opportunities for all residents to regularly engage in cognitively stimulating activities (Montessori, Serper, etc.)

  • Assists the MCP Director to incorporate cultural experiences on a regular basis (art appreciation programs, Artist for Alzheimer's volunteers, creation of art).

  • Assists MCP Director with interactions with the community (children's groups, sports teams, working together for a "cause", etc.).

  • Records resident's activity participation in both individual and group in the resident's medical record. (census)

  • Maintains the activity supplies and equipment.

  • Performs specific work duties and responsibilities as assigned by the MCP Director.

  • Attends in-service training and education sessions as assigned.1

Here are a few of the qualifications we need you to have:

High school diploma/ GED required. Some college experience is preferred. Preference will be given to those who have had specific experience with running activities for an Alzheimer's population. Have current CPR and First Aid Certificates is preferred.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL CONDITIONS

The ISH Specialist must be able to work with others in setting up for events, including lifting, stooping, stretching, and using a step-stool or ladder. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. independently. Must be able to stand for at least half an hour. Must be able to walk a mile. Must be able to complete small set-ups independently. Must be able to assist residents physically in boarding the bus, sitting, standing, and walking. Good visual and hearing acuity required. May be exposed to communicable diseases, blood, and body fluids that may contain HIV and/or HBV. May be exposed to cleaning chemicals and offensive odors.
