Summary: The primary function of this position is to provide accurate and efficient service and information to credit union members in the branch office.

Job Duties:

  • Receive branch members either in person or by telephone, determines nature of members business and transacts request (this includes Shared Branch Members)

  • Provides routine information concerning credit union services or policies. This includes but not limited to: explanation about the credit union, membership eligibility, types of accounts available, how dividends are paid on share accounts, starting/changing direct deposit or payroll distributions, locations and hours of operation.

  • Perform financial transactions for members: deposits, withdrawals, (either by cash or check), loan payments and transfers as requested.

  • Handles member inquiries concerning their accounts.

  • Assist members in opening new accounts (including Certificates of Deposit, checking accounts, sub-accounts), in making changes to existing accounts, starting/stopping direct deposit or payroll distribution.

  • Balance payrolls prior to posting.

  • Issue money orders, counter checks, and any other sales items per member request.

  • Assist in verification of night deposit and mail.

  • Operate and maintain computer terminal and cash drawer. Balance cash drawer daily.

  • Research and perform maintenance on member accounts.

  • Perform such tasks as assigned by Branch Manager or Senior MSR.

Basic Requirements:

Shall demonstrate proficiency in the operation of the online terminal. Accuracy in handling cash and recording daily transactions, ability to properly receive members daily transactions, mental alertness, neat and professional appearance, punctuality, and cooperative attitude in relation to members and other employees. Knowledge of Microsoft Office and ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing are required.

You must be able to communicate effectively with prospective and current members, representing our credit union in a positive and professional manner. Our tellers are expected to perform transactional duties to serve members by receiving or paying out funds with high accuracy. You must maintain accurate transactional records and provide cash receipt and payment services in accordance with credit union policies and procedures. Company Description Mountain Credit Union serves the ten western counties of North Carolina with headquarters in Waynesville and eight branches. We are "People Helping People" by providing our members with financial products and services designed to meet their needs. A Day in the Life of a Credit Union Teller: Each day you will focus on greeting and welcoming members to the credit union in a courteous, professional and timely manner, providing prompt, accurate and efficient member transactions. You will receive share drafts/checks and cash for deposit to accounts, verify amounts, examine share drafts/checks for proper endorsement, and enter deposits into computer records. Assist with mail or email transactions as needed. You will need to be able to cash share drafts/checks and process withdrawals; pay out money after verification of signatures and member balances. Maintain an up-to-date and comprehensive knowledge of all credit union products and services that are handled or promoted by tellers. Maintain an up-to-date and comprehensive knowledge of all related policies, procedures, and rules and regulations, including robbery procedures. Promote, explain, issue and cross-sell other credit union services such as electronic services, debit and credit cards, traveler's checks, money orders and safe deposit boxes. Receive consumer loan, home loan, and other payments, and ensure accuracy when posting to the computer. Generate member receipts. Place holds on accounts for uncollected funds. Count, check and package coins and currency. Balance cash drawer at the end of the shift and compare totaled amounts to a computer-generated balance sheet. Research and resolve discrepancies. Report any discrepancy to the supervisor as necessary. Check night depository bags and record proper information according to credit union procedures. Scan daily work and perform such other teller functions that might be needed from time to time, and assist others to complete tasks and work assignments.
