Position Overview

The Melt Shop Maintenance Mechanical Supervisor provides the tools and resources necessary to foster an atmosphere of continuous improvement and employee development in order to protect shareholder investment and operational capacity. Areas of responsibility include: processes, cost efficiency, waste reduction and development of maintenance team. The Supervisor advocates sound maintenance business practices to support mill operational processes to produce a quality product within budget that meets or exceeds customer expectations and supports the business strategies and goals of the mill, division, CMCA and CMC. Melt Shop Mechanical Supervisor will be responsible for all of the Melt Shop equipment such as DC Furnace, Ladle Met Station, Caster, Fume Treatment Plant and all auxiliary systems that support the shop.

Assist the Manager of Electrical and Mechanical Maintenance in training, directing, and supervising employees, maintaining continuous and efficient operation of the system's equipment. Essential Job Functions: * Direct, supervise, and coordinate the duties of the mechanics and machinists in the department to ensure assignments are completed timely and in a quality manner. * Champion and ensure the administration of safe work practices and operations in accordance with BWWB Safety Program and Best Practices. * Determine schedules, sequences, and assignments for work activities, based on work priority, quantity of equipment, and skill of personnel. * Inspect and monitor work areas, examine tools and equipment, and provide employee safety training to prevent, detect, and correct unsafe conditions or violations of procedures and safety rules. * Investigate accidents or injuries and prepare reports of findings. * Monitor employees' work levels and review work performance. * Requisition materials and supplies, such as tools, equipment, or replacement parts. * Inspect, test, and measure completed work, using devices such as hand tools or gauges to verify conformance to standards or repair requirements. * Conduct or arrange for worker training in safety, repair, or maintenance techniques, operational procedures, or equipment use. * Develop, implement, or evaluate maintenance policies and procedures. * Compute estimates and actual costs of factors such as materials, labor, or outside contractors. * Examine objects, systems, or facilities and analyze information to determine needed installations, services, or repairs. * Confer with personnel, such as management, engineering, quality control, customer, or union workers' representatives, to coordinate work activities, resolve employee grievances, or identify and review resource needs. * Monitor tool and part inventories and the condition and maintenance of shops to ensure adequate working conditions. * Supervise the performance of maintenance operations. * Participate in budget preparation and administration, coordinating purchasing and documentation and monitoring departmental expenditures. * Interpret specifications, blueprints, or job orders to construct templates and lay out reference points for workers. * Oversee the service, repair and maintenance of a wide variety of machinery and mechanical equipment utilized in the treatment and distribution of water, and of the maintenance of buildings, machine analyses, such as laser alignment and vibration data collection. * Oversee the routine maintenance of all pumps and motors (gas, diesel, electrical, air), including but not limited to: oil changing, motor aligning, servicing/repairing motors and worn or damaged equipment parts; welding, cutting, and brazing metals together in repair/construction of new fabrications; and removing old/installing new equipment such as pumps, valves, and electric motors. * Ensuring the overhauling/inspecting/repairing of valves (electric check valves, regulating valves, altitude valves) and small engines is completed successfully. * Respond to trouble calls at remote locations and filter plants in the event of an emergency and perform mechanical troubleshooting. * Perform other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education: Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering with emphasis on water pumping equipment and all associated devices and appurtenances experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience: Eight (8) years' experience repairing freshwater and wastewater pumps. Experience with laser alignment equipment, vibration equipment, welding and pressure-reducing valves required. Must have supervisory/leadership experience, strong communication and interpersonal skills, strong organizational skills as well as good PC skills. Supervision: 5 – 10 Employees Directly Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid Alabama Driver's License Certified Welder; preferred Level 2 vibration analysis; preferred Laser Alignment training on Pruftechnik alignment equipment; preferred COMPENTENCIES: To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies: Project Management * Develops project plans; Coordinates projects; * Communicates changes and progress; * Completes projects on time and budget; * Manages project team activities.
