Meijer Category Analytics & Strategy Manager


  • Has a solid understanding of Meijer's business (corporate initiatives and category specifics), Midwest US retail environment, category portfolio, Spirits and Adult Beverage market trends & performance, and macro shopper trends.

  • Owns all reporting and insights deliverables regularly scheduled and ad hoc.

  • Deep understanding of category management practices and ways of working with retailers and internal corporate teams.

  • Coordination with cross-functional teams both internally (sales, shopper marketing, and HQ team) and externally (buying teams, distributors, space planners, marketing team).

  • Demonstrated leadership role in aligning customer and category best practice strategies and ensuring appropriate tactical enablers are planned and executed.

Purpose of Role:

  • This position will be based in Michigan. Preferably in the local Grand Rapids area due to high level of interaction with retailer.

  • This role directly supports the Meijer spirits category team by fulfilling required tactical and strategic category management functions.

  • Work collaboratively with local category management team and internal leadership to provide best-in-class support and recommendations for the customer.

  • Heavy emphasis on performance analysis and category development projects such as shopper engagement and developing insights into recommendations.

  • The role requires a significant level of collaboration and ability to positively & effectively manage the category-level decision making with customers.

  • Primarily responsible for executing category management at the account: category assessment, assortment optimization, promotional recommendations and evaluation, account business plans, and shopper insights.

  • Influence account to drive Spirits business in ways that benefit both Meijer as a whole and the category's performance via improvements in distribution, shelving, assortment, promotion, shopper navigation, and sales.

  • Manage the development of category plans and strategy while aligning customer, category, & regulatory realities. Ensure appropriate tactical enablers are planned for and are executed.

  • Travel is on average 20% or less.

Qualifications and Experience Required:

  • College degree required

  • Minimum 3 to 5 years relevant experience, preferably in a Category Captain or Advisor capacity

  • Strong analytical and presentation/communication skills

  • Must have strong technical experience with advanced software skills relevant to Category Management functions - this includes syndicated data systems (Nielsen, IRI, Spectra), shelf management software (JDA), and Microsoft office (Excel, PowerPoint). Data visualization experience is a plus.

  • Experience with using and developing insights from loyalty card data is highly preferred.

  • Experience with "big data" management and analysis is a key benefit for any candidate.

  • Beverage Alcohol experience highly preferred

The successful candidate will oversee the proper use of management and enterprise systems and data, leverage data analytics to systematically influence change for operational excellence, and ensure appropriate standards, controls, and measures are in place. Reporting to the Vice President Enterprise RC Services and Support, the Director RC Data Analytics will be responsible for: Key Responsibilities * Serves as system-wide leader of data and analytics through direct ownership of data analytics and reporting needs, including but not limited to * On-going monitoring and trending of key operational, financial, and service line volume metrics; * On-demand strategic analysis and/or custom reports; * Predictive analytical models to proactively identify risks and opportunities, and * Compelling visualizations (e.g., dashboards, presentations, charts) to illustrate trends and performance * Oversees research and maintains current knowledge of competitive dynamics and analytical models in the market * Oversees data review, analysis, and audits, and collaborates with Revenue Excellence and vendor leadership to present findings, identify opportunities for improvements and/or cost savings, and pursue such improvements * Directs development of analytical insights and methodologies for all revenue cycle functions, including Patient Access, Health Information Management, Patient Financial Services, and Reimbursement throughout the system * Directs development of and continued relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to assess current and future utilization of analytical tools and data * Manages technology advancement initiatives, such as Robotic Process Automation (RPA) * Maintains Revenue Health Scorecard, standard reporting, and coordination for OEI database * Manages, oversees, trains, mentors, and develops team of data scientists and data analysts Job Requirements Qualifications & Experience * Bachelor's degree in Business or Healthcare Administration, Mathematics, Statistics or a related technical field, (Master's degree preferred) * Extensive knowledge of end to end revenue cycle strategies for hospital and medical group operations * (7) years of experience within the area of Revenue Cycle/Management, specifically with experience managing revenue cycle data analytics and with direct oversight of robust data analytics at a multi-entity healthcare organization or large complex revenue cycle services or equivalent combination of education and experience * Managerial and supervisory experience with two (2) or more years leading a team of data scientists and or/analysts and a track record of being a people-focused manager * Expert level skills with MS Office Applications: Microsoft Excel, Access, and PowerPoint. Knowledge and experience with statistical software i.e., SAS, SPSS, MiniTab, etc., and the ability to apply a working knowledge of Structural Query Language (SQL) and/or relational databases * Mastery of data management systems, proficiency in predictive analytics, and knowledge of coding languages (e.g., excel-based Macro programming) preferred This position is a full-time permanent leader role within a health system.
