Job Summary:

Under minimal supervision by the Project Manager, the Site Safety and Health Officer is responsible for enforcing the company's Safety and Health Policies as well as local and federal safety standards on job sites. In addition, this position is responsible for conducting employee safety training and consults with project supervisors to develop safe work plans for all phases and tasks. The SSHO will also be responsible for all administrative tasks related to the contract to include conducting, completing, and accurately filling all job duties.

Job Duties:

  • Assists, plans, and implements safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations including Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA) and Department of Transportation (DOT)

  • Advises Corporate Safety Officer on safety compliance concerns and preventative actions

  • Plans and implements training for employees in worksite safety practices

  • Maintains safety files and records

  • Performs weekly, monthly and annual safety surveys and inspections, prepares written reports of findings and recommendations for corrective or preventative measures where indicated, and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented

  • Conducts post-accident investigation and prepares reports identifying possible accident causes and hazards for use by company personnel and senior management

  • Assists, set, and conducts training

  • Assists in the development, evaluation, and upgrading of safety programs.

  • Assists in maintaining and completing all administrative tasks related to the contract

  • Other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:

  • Frequent exposure to heat, sun for extended periods of time.

  • Possible exposure to chemicals, fumes, odors, and various infectious diseases.

  • Exposure to wildlife.

  • Move and lift between 25-50+ lbs.

  • Possible exposure to uncomfortable noise levels and vibration of the body or extremities.

Qualifications

The SSHO shall have completed five (5) years of satisfactory experience in preparing and enforcing safety programs on contracts of similar size and complexity in the past, or three (3) years' experience if he/she possesses a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or safety and health degree. The SSHO shall have completed the OSHA 30-hour construction safety class or equivalent and maintain competency through 24 hours of formal safety and health-related coursework every four (4) years.

  • Associate's Degree or equivalent experience.

  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills with the ability to increase skill level in this area.

  • Attention to detail with emphasis on problem-solving and high-quality work product

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and drive results

  • Requires strong organizational skills and the ability to complete multiple complex tasks in a timely fashion.

  • Requires incumbent to be self-motivated to independently work to complete multiple projects/tasks in a timely and accurate fashion.

  • Demonstrated project management skills including project initiation, scoping, resourcing, and coordination.

  • Familiar with ISO 9001 requirements.

  • First Aid / CPR certified.

  • Read, write, and communicate effectively in English.

  • Knowledge of tools, equipment, techniques, skills, materials, and methods of landscaping.

  • Ability to determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job.

  • Ability to operate or learn to operate riding mower, weed eater, grass edger, chain saw, stump grinder, hedge trimmer, leaf blower, wood chipper, lift, pressure washer, and other basic hand and power tools.

  • The ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs.

  • The ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).

  • The ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time in inclement weather.

  • Ability to work in a safe and efficient manner.

  • Ability to operate various pieces of large equipment in accordance with company procedures and safety regulations.

  • The ability to make repetitive movements.

  • The ability to work in awkward postures.

  • Be able to pass a background check and screening requirements as required by contract and company standards.
