You will be working with the Pilot Tooling Group, consisting ofMechanical engineers, Electrical engineers, Programmers, Machinist and

Mechanics. This is a highly proactive team that works together to design, build,fabricate intricate assembly fixtures, while supporting R&D initiatives.

Responsible for qualifying and setting up of assembly tooling including support and trouble shooting, This position is responsible for assisting in engineering builds and creating specifications required for building a quality assembled products. You will maintain an adequate preventive maintenance schedule including safety parameters set by EHS standards. Lifting, bending, twisting, repetitive hand operations are also included in daily work requirements.

A Day in the Life

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Designs components or portions of systems and modifies existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing and field service operations.

  • Utilizes computer-aided design equipment and/or graphic tools, such as CAD, CAM, CATIA, ProEngineer, Solidworx or Siemens NX Software.

  • Gathers information, makes studies, computes calculations, and prepares original rough layouts, sketches to present design proposal.

  • Coordinates design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning group such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, and contractual specifications.

  • Participate in team design efforts to achieve prototype assembly fixtures and provide support to Principal Mechanic

  • Ability to hold tolerances and confirm tool specifications by verifying dimensions, clearances and alignment of machine components with precision measuring equipment (Micrometers, gauge blocks, dial indicators, etc.

  • Assist with safety area audits as well as support manufacturing operations process improvement efforts

  • Adhere and carry out all activities in accordance with all applicable SOP's and safety standards

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience of relevant experience

  • May require vocational or technical education and advanced certification in addition to prior work experience

Nice to Have

  • Knowledge of and proven application of all machining, tool building and prototyping methodologies. Basic Wiring and PLC programming a plus.

  • Manufacturing methods/mathematics and materials

  • Computer skills (MS OFFICE, excel, Maximo a plus)

  • Experience ensuring operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs

  • Constructing medium to high precision prototype components and models from raw stock materials to engineering specifications by operating various machining equipment such as Vertical Milling machines, lathes, surface grinders, saws and hand tools.

  • Ability to recommend optimum manufacturing approach for prototypes.

  • Ability to hold tolerances and confirm tool specifications by verifying dimensions, clearances and alignment of machine components with precision measuring equipment (Micrometers, gauge blocks, dial indicators, etc.

  • Ability to design and construct low to medium complex tools, jigs and fixtures for assembly and manufacturing needs to meet production schedules and objectives.
