Are you a passionate Medical Writer who wants to work for a great, non-profit organization? Healthwise is looking for a Medical Writer who can flex his or her writing muscles on a variety of online, print, and multimedia projects. Ideally, you have experience working with medical subject matter experts as well as editors and artists. Duties & Responsibilities
Envisions, outlines, and develops new content for Healthwise products.
Writes and self-edits with good grammar, spelling, and punctuation skills and according to appropriate style guidelines.
Works on many types of content at the same time and meets deadlines.
Writes clear, simple health information for targeted reading levels. Understands plain- language concepts, behavior change theory, engagement, and health literacy issues as well as internet usability principles.
Knows how to use visual content to complement text, suggesting appropriate images, graphics, layout, and interactive design.
Easily adapts to different writing styles and tones used in a variety of media, including print, web, and video.
Researches and evaluates medical information and cites sources appropriately.
Applies evidence-based research to medical content and writes accurately and clearly across multiple medical areas.
Consults and collaborates with other writers, medical content specialists, the medical team, and other teams to improve content and ensure medical accuracy.
Uses XML-based authoring, tracking, and other tools. Learns new technology easily.
May edit the work of others for accuracy, style, and readability, and provide constructive oral and written feedback.
May plan, lead, and manage content projects.
Performs other duties as assigned or needed.
Minimum bachelor's degree, preferably in communications, journalism, or writing.
Minimum four years' professional experience writing consumer health information or other content intended for a lay audience.
Demonstrated ability to write clearly and accurately about complex medical conditions in terms understandable to non-clinicians.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with multi-disciplinary project teams, including clinicians.
Familiarity with evidence-based medicine concepts, theories, and practice preferred.
Experience using content authoring and/or content management systems preferred.
