Medical Transportation Trainer

  • Position Summary: Ensures fully capable non-emergency medical transportation driving and customer service skills on the part of all drivers employed by performing the following duties personally. Responsible for ensuring that all critical tasks are fulfilled on a timely basis.

Critical Tasks:

  • Ensures safe and responsive van transportation for clients by drivers while also ensuring full compliance with all driving and traffic safety standards and laws.

  • Utilizes only highly effective training methodologies as measured by driver capabilities and customer feedback.

  • Administers behind-the-wheel training and final exams to Driver Trainees.

  • Provides retraining and in-service training for drivers as necessary.

  • Conducts Safety training programs on subjects of driving and patient service.

  • Communicates as necessary with all drivers to ensure highly coordinated understanding of services to be performed with patients, their family members or guardians, nurses, clinic staff, and medical providers.

  • Ensures clear understanding by all drivers of what their duties and objectives are.

  • Conducts check rides and communicates to drivers on all subjects requiring improved job performance.

  • Corrects drivers when errors occur, or when efficiencies could be improved upon.

  • Trains newly hired drivers regarding all key aspects of their position in subject areas such as patient service, motor vehicle and patient safety, enterprise policies and procedures, geography served and physical locations of facilities, general community culture, and safety campaigns.

  • Instructs drivers on medical transportation best practices.

  • Rides with medical van drivers to detect errors in handling patients and job duties while providing appropriate corrections when necessary, and for professional skill development purposes.

  • Documents training performed and maintains accurate training records for trainees and drivers.

  • Complies fully with all confidentiality regulations and policies while not disclosing any patient or client information to unauthorized persons.

  • Fulfills all duties of drivers on occasion and whenever necessary, in addition to Fleet Vue data reviews and accident investigations.

  • Maintains commitment to patient needs and patient service, with a wide array of patient styles, abilities and limitations.

  • Takes all steps necessary to model positive workplace behavior and exceptional service to customers.

  • Fulfills work responsibilities at multiple work locations.

  • Maintains focus upon patient and client needs while taking all necessary steps to ensure that those individuals are responded to rapidly based upon their stated issues and the observations of this position holder.

  • Demonstrates ability to regularly change priorities to accomplish all tasks despite frequent interruptions.

  • Demonstrates ability to clearly communicate, both orally and in writing, while performing all essential functions.

  • Performs other special projects and duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School diploma.

  • Valid Arizona driver's license, violation free for a minimum of five years.

  • Defensive Driving certification preferred.

  • One to three years of experience in a medical transportation role.

  • Demonstrated ability to relate to diverse cultures and specifically the Gila River Community and/or other Native American cultures.

  • Interest in medical subjects, patient services/care, and customer service.

  • Prior medical environment work experience is preferred.

The EMT is responsible for performing the following duties, as well as ensuring that all critical tasks are fulfilled in a timely manner. Critical Tasks: * Maintains continually updated knowledge of treatment protocols and methods in a constantly changing environment. * Makes timely high quality medical and life/death decisions within limits of training and certification. * Rapidly assesses nature and extent of injuries and illnesses to establish and prioritize medical procedures to be followed. * Fully coordinates activities and actions with all other involved emergency staff members including with other agencies. * Responds to instructions from emergency medical dispatcher and drives specially equipped emergency vehicle to specified location. * Remains alert to dangerous situations to both self, crew and patients for periods of twenty-four (24) hours. * Monitors communication equipment to maintain contact with dispatcher. * Maintains updated knowledge of streets, roads and structure locations throughout the community. * Concisely and accurately describes patient conditions to physicians and hospital staff to expedite treatments. * Removes or assists in removal of victims from scene of accident or catastrophe. * Determines nature and extent of illness or injury, or magnitude of catastrophe, to establish first aid procedures to be followed or need for additional assistance, basing decisions on statements of persons involved, examination of victim or victims, and knowledge of emergency medical practice. * Administers prescribed first aid treatment at site of emergency, or in specially equipped vehicle, performing such activities as application of splints, administration of oxygen or intravenous injections, treatment of wounds or medical conditions, and administration of emergency medical treatments. * Communicates with professional medical personnel at emergency treatment facility to obtain instructions regarding further treatment and to arrange for reception of victims at treatment facility. * Removes victims from vehicles, buildings, and exterior environments and transfers patients to various treatment centers. * Completely avoids improper treatments or medication administration to patients to prevent adverse or fatal outcomes. * Exceptional ability to write/document and obtain information critical to efficient charting procedures including patient histories, current ailments and billing information. * Assists treatment center admitting personnel to obtain and record information related to victims' vital statistics and circumstances of emergency. * Maintains vehicles and medical and communication equipment and replenishes first aid equipment and supplies. * Assists in controlling crowds, protecting valuables, or performing other duties at emergency scenes. * Assists professional medical personnel in emergency treatment administered at medical facility. * Demonstrates ability to regularly change priorities to accomplish all tasks despite frequent interruptions. * Demonstrates ability to clearly communicate, both orally and in writing, while performing all essential functions. * Performs other special projects and duties as assigned.
