Job Overview
Shriners Children's Chicago is looking for a part-time Medical Technologists for our Clinical Lab Department. Join a team of professionals committed to improving children's lives. Responsibilities
The Medical Technologist accurately performs and evaluates technical procedures utilizing accepted quality control techniques with the aid of automated, semi-automated and/or manual methodologies.
Diagnostic procedures are performed in chemistry, microbiology, hemostasis, hematology, blood banking, urinalysis and venipuncture as needed.
Performs phlebotomy on patients/employees as needed. Follows proper procedure for preparing patient, verifying identity of patient, obtaining specimen, correctly filling out requisition.
Follows established procedures for laboratory quality control and documents corrective action on QC failures.
Performs daily, monthly, and as needed maintenance on equipment and documents accordingly.
Is knowledgeable on correct procedure for specimen collection/rejection.
Performs calibration of equipment as required. Performs accurate and appropriate testing of specimens received in the laboratory, according to established laboratory protocol and procedures.
Reports test results in a timely manner per policy/procedure.
Reports results for stats, abnormals, critical values, and other categories of special requests as defined by laboratory policy.
Ensures test requisitions are filled out correctly.
Is proficient in hematology, hemostasis, urinalysis, microbiology, chemistry, serology and blood banking.
Troubleshoots instruments, equipment, reagents and patient specimens when problems occur. Notifies Manager if unable to resolve the issue. Documents action taken.
Complies with established laboratory and hospital policies for universal precautions and safety procedures.
Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department team, inter and intra-departmentally, to facilitate the department's ability to meet its goals and objectives.
Maintains work area - cleans bench, restocks supplies, notifies manager of low inventory.
