Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Medical Technologist at Hackensack Meridian includes:

  • Determining normal and abnormal components of body fluids by conducting chemical analyses of blood, urine, spinal fluids, and gastric juices

  • Preparing reports of technological findings by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information

  • Maintaining patient confidence and protects the hospital by keeping information confidential.

  • Maintaining safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations. Protecting patients and employees by adhering to infection-control and hazardous waste policies and protocols; following identification procedures.

  • Providing medical technology information by answering questions and requests.

  • Ensuring operation of laboratory equipment by calibrating; completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.

  • Conserving laboratory resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.

  • Maintaining professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Education: Associate in Science (AS) in Medical Technology required.

  • Desired Education: Bachelor of Science (BS) preferred.

  • Minimum Work Experience: One to three years as Generalist-Chemistry/Hematology/Transfusion Services experience preferred. Will consider a new grad.

  • Required licenses/certifications: Certification from the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or Nat'l Clinical Lab Specialist (NCLS) certification or eligible is required

  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of FDA Regulations, Lab Environment, Clinical Lab Testing, Chemistry Techniques, Equipment maintenance, Use of Medical terminology. Organization, Attention to details, Computer, order entry, basic Microsoft office, and excellent documentation and communication skills required. Ability to accept responsibility for accuracy and response times to emergent and non-emergent requests.

The Respiratory Therapist: * Delivers respiratory care by providing respiratory therapy under medical direction in the treatment, management, control and diagnostic evaluation and care of patients in the hospital with deficiencies of the cardiopulmonary system * Under all methods of practice shall conform to all written forms of policies and procedures and be carried out to highly achievable level of competency in a manner demonstrating consideration and concern Responsibilities A day in the life of a Respiratory Therapist at Hackensack Meridian Health includes: * Providing respiratory care and performing duties for all age groups, including general floor care, ICU, ED, ventilator management, ABGS, medication administration, CPT, breathing exercises and BIPAP * Reviewing patient information * Collecting and evaluating all pertinent information pertaining to patients care * Performing and/or evaluating blood gas analysis and pulse oximetry * Evaluating appropriateness of therapy * Selecting, assembling and checking gas administration devices * Selecting, assembling and checking resuscitation devices * Performing procedures for disinfecting equipment * Patient and family education * Performing complete computerization of medication administration record * Participating in emergency conditions Qualifications * Current Licensed Respiratory Therapist in New Jersey * Graduate of an accredited Respiratory therapy program is required * Registered Respiratory Therapist is required * Two (2) or more years of experience working as an RT in critical care in a hospital setting is required * BLS by American Heart Association is required within three (3) months of hire * ACLS and PALS are required within three (3) months of hire * Computer skills are required * If you feel that the above description speaks directly to your strengths and capabilities, then please apply today!
