Microbiology Medical Technologist

Position Summary:
The MT Student Technical Specialist generally works independently and is responsible for coordination of the MT student program(s) and assuring that the curriculum is adequately covered during student labs, clinical rotations and lectures.

Responsibilities:
Primary instructor for student lab sessions. Actively coordinates/contributes to instruction for students in clinical rotations.
Writes and delivers lectures. Keeps students engaged and productive during all phases of their rotations. Demonstrates knowledge of theory and technical applications of Clinical Microbiology - stays abreast of new developments.
Monitors and evaluates student performance and fulfillment of program goals. Grades exams, assists in preparing of student teaching materials and evaluates programs for appropriateness and quality. May write or update course outlines, checklists and exams.
Communicates student performance to and works with education coordinator if additional instruction or corrective actions are needed.
Works with section supervisors and education coordinator to schedule MT students in microbiology introductory labs and clinical rotations.
Works closely with other coordinators and supervisors to provide a fluid and complete rotation for the students.
Along with section supervisors, selects and develops medical technologist instructors for clinical rotations. Assures medical technology instructors are evaluated for ability to effectively teach subject materials.
Perform duties of a Medical Technologist II including, but not limited to: isolation, identification and susceptibility testing of pathogenic microorganisms; preparation of reagents and media; communication with medical staff regarding work performed.
Function as an assistant supervisor on weekends, holidays, and in absence of supervisors.
Provides technical guidance to the internal staff and external customers to meet clinical objectives for patient work and support SMH customers.
Maintenance and troubleshooting of instruments/procedures; documentation of essential information such as quality control data, calibration verification, reagent lots, proficiency sample data, etc.
Training of new technologists, technicians, residents on new procedures and instruments as well as competency assessments for current staff.
Monitoring usage of supplies and reagents. Assist in ordering of parts and supplies.
Assists with workflow and daily scheduling of lab staff for work assignments and staff mandatory training/educating requirements.

Qualifications:
Effective interpersonal skills, and maintains a friendly and courteous professional manner at all times.
Excellent Communication, word processing and computer skills are essential.
Is able to prioritize and maintain focus while performing multiple tasks.
Well-developed communication skills are a must.
Adherence to ill University, Division and Department policies.
Adherence to all laboratory safety procedures.
Bachelor's degree in related science and 6 years clinical experience or Master's degree in related science and 3 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. New York State License in the Clinical Laboratory Technologist category required. MT certification preferred. (ASCP)

Sr. Software Engineer Basic Purpose of Position: Design, develop and test software contained within a complex medical device including communication software to support interoperability. Work with other engineering disciplines (e.g., mechanical, electrical, system) to create new medical devices that meet product requirements. Execute tasks along the complete software development lifecycle including creating documents to support regulatory compliance. Communicate with customer and other team members to produce desired results. Primary or Major Responsibilities: * Support the customer in developing realistic and testable requirements for the product and its software. Learn about the medical area pertaining to the product including its significance. * Develop sufficient working medical knowledge for the product under development. * Design and architect solutions for a customer utilizing knowledge of development platforms, operating systems, networks, peripherals of general and specific nature, software tools and applications. Mold initial concepts into a fully developed cohesive strategy for complete medical device. * Integrate software components into fully functioning system including custom hardware. * Develop and document unit tests to meet quality assurance requirements * Perform software development, document creation and project review tasks as needed. * Troubleshoot, debug and upgrade existing software releases. * Communicate concisely and professionally regarding product designs and technical details. Provide regular status reports and updated estimates for completion. * Use the Quality Management System to complete assignments along with following Sparton policies and procedures. Comply with appropriate regulatory guidelines and industry standards. * Apply hazard analysis, failure analysis, and risk mitigations as required within the development lifecycle. * Travel as appropriate to support interactions with customer. Safety: Ensure that all assignments are performed in compliance with all applicable Federal, State, Provincial and Company safety and health regulations, and where applicable, proper personal protective equipment is utilized. Minimum Requirements: * Bachelor's degree in a computer software related field of study. Advanced degree(s) a plus. * Software design engineering experience from 7-12 years. * Working knowledge and experience with C, C++ and C# programming languages. * Experience and knowledge with the entire Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) process. Experience with IEC 62304 a plus. * Experience in medical product development environment a plus. * Experience working under a documented Quality Management System (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO 13485) maintaining quality records throughout project execution. * Current experience with software development tools (compilers, IDE, debuggers, source code control, static code analyzers, unit testing, defect tracking) a must. * Experience with bare-metal, RTOS, and Linux embedded development platforms. * Competent with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Microsoft Project. * Experience in generating design documentation, ability to write technical reports, and provide cost and schedule estimates. * Must show high initiative, motivation, and have the ability to work independently * Excellent communication skills and ability to work within a team environment to accomplish goals.
