Full-time Medical Technologist needed at a top hospital right outside of Austin, TX!

Our laboratory is growing and we are seeking an experienced Medical Technologist to join our team! This is a full time position working Monday through Friday 2:00pm

  • 10:30pm with rotating weekends. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five (5) years of blood bank experience in an acute care hospital setting.

The Medical Technologist performs routine and specialized moderate and high complexity laboratory tests on all types of blood and body fluid specimens, ensuring accurate and reliable test results by adhering to a strict quality control program.

Responsibilities:

  • Follows laboratory procedure for specimen collection, handling, and processing which is appropriate to the age of the patient

  • Uses two patient identifiers during collection, receiving, and test processing

  • Monitors possible effects of pre-analytical variables and follows laboratory procedures for handling specimens that adversely affect test results

  • Reports test results accurately

  • Recognizes factors that affect measurements and results and take appropriate action to resolve the issues

  • Communicates and documents relevant patient laboratory testing data including critical result to appropriate healthcare provider for patient's continuum of care in a timely manner

  • Checks and troubleshoots outstanding tests list in a timely manner. Knowledgeable with analysis on analyzers and ability to perform manual test procedures in all areas of the lab

  • Performs and documents quality control and instrument maintenance in a timely manner in compliance with all departmental procedures and regulatory guidelines

  • Takes appropriate action to maintain accuracy, precision and notifies appropriate supervisory personnel if unable to resolve issues

  • Performs tasks in a manner that facilitates work flow and enhances the quality of patient care

  • Performs proficiency survey according to the policy in a timely manner and accurately

  • Able to train and mentor new staff and students in practical application and theory of the general department

  • Able to effectively operate the Laboratory Computer System for general laboratory and section specific functions

  • Performs instrument function checks and preventative maintenance procedures according to department's policies and procedures

  • Assists as needed in all laboratory areas as required to maintain appropriate patient care

  • Demonstrates willingness to assume additional responsibilities when needed

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology, or closely related field

  • Certified as a Medical Technologist (MT)or Medical Lab Technician (MLT) by the American Society of Clinical Pathology(ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT), or equivalent

  • Minimum of 5+ years of generalist experience in an acute care hospital laboratory performing blood bank /transfusions required

  • Must be a US citizen or eligible to work in the US for any employer. No sponsorship will be provided

VIEW JOBS 11/13/2018 12:00:00 AM 2019-02-11T00:00 The Medical Technologist independently and without technical supervision performs low, moderate, and high complexity clinical laboratory testing as a generalist, with assignment in some or all of the following disciplines: urinalysis, coagulation, hematology, chemistry, special chemistry, and immunology. The Med Tech also troubleshoots laboratory equipment and methods and provides technical supervision of others as required. Responsibilities include: * Perform clinical laboratory testing on samples according to established laboratory procedures, and verify/report test results as requested by study protocol. Ensures quality laboratory results and prioritizes work to optimize timely result reporting. Accurately perform quality control/assurance and proficiency testing as needed * Maintain complex laboratory equipment and correctly interpret assay validity as a CLIA qualified clinical laboratory testing professional * Perform and record instrument and test preventive maintenance, calibration, reagent, troubleshooting and other procedures required to establish, maintain, or monitor test performance * Perform, monitor and record disinfection and maintenance of general laboratory equipment and areas * Technically monitor and supervise medical laboratory technicians and students. This includes participation in the laboratory competency assessment program Education and Experience: * Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or four-years of college plus Clinical Laboratory Scientist (NCA) or equivalent certification Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: * Ability to advise clinic staff in the proper techniques of specimen collection and submission * Ability to evaluate new test systems and equipment for use in the laboratory * Instrument preventive maintenance and troubleshooting skills * Ability to perform assays in additional clinical and research applications * Knowledge of the basic theories and techniques of clinical laboratory testing in urinalysis, coagulation, hematology, chemistry, special chemistry, and immunology * Basic knowledge of human anatomy and physiology * Knowledge of laboratory principles and techniques of problem-solving * Knowledge of customer service principles and practices * Leadership skills * Communication skills (oral and written) * Record-keeping skills * Must be able to modify work schedule to meet clinic needs PPD is an affirmative action employer that values diversity as a strength and fosters an environment of mutual respect.
