POSITION SUMMARY:

To be fully engaged in providing No Harm / Quality, Customer Experience, and Stewardship by: working as a team to maintain responsible attitudes, performing laboratory testing to provide quality results and using resources efficiently.

The Medical Technologist is assigned to one or more of the following laboratory sections of responsibility: Blood Bank, Microbiology ( Bacteriology, Virology, Parasitology, Mycology, Mycobacteriology, Immunology, Molecular Diagnostics), Core Lab, (Hematology, Coagulation, Routine Chemistry, Urinalysis), Special Chemistry.

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Quality/No Harm:

  • Complies with the department policies/processes/procedures to provide accurate results, quality products and services with 2 errors per year.

  • Assures valid results as evidenced by zero patient or sample identification errors in the pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical phases of laboratory procedures.

  • Understands and applies sample quality control and equipment quality control per department policy as measured by review of quality control logs with 5 errors per year.

  • Is a self-starter in identifying and assuming ownership of opportunities for improvement.

Stewardship:

  • Manages daily workload in a productive manner.

Customer Experience:

  • Uses knowledge of instrumentation and procedures to assist others in troubleshooting and to cross train.

  • Complies with "I CARE" values as measured by no positive disciplinary action per Human Resources Policy 4.01.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • As required for Medical Technologist licensure by State of Florida and in accordance with CLIA guidelines.

  • Appropriate certification by the ASCP or other similar accrediting agencies preferred.

  • Must be willing and able to work with bio-hazardous/toxic materials following OSHA guidelines.

  • Excellent human relations skills

  • Excellent organizational skills.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Strong computer skills.

  • Knowledge of quality assurance and quality control procedures.

  • Must be able to work weekends and holidays when needed.

  • May be required to take call.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Visual acuity and manual dexterity to perform clinical/technical tasks.

  • Must pass color blindness test.

  • Must be able to lift 10 - 20 lbs. unassisted.

  • Must be able to stand for extended periods (2-3 hours).

  • Must be able to sit and operate a computer.

MENTAL DEMANDS:

  • Must be able to function in a highly stressful environment.

  • Responsible for problem solving situations.

  • Able to make independent decisions.

  • Competent and confident in interpretation of all tests performed in the section.

VIEW JOBS 1/12/2022 12:00:00 AM 2022-04-12T00:00 POSITION SUMMARY To be fully engaged in providing Quality/No Harm, Customer Experience, and Stewardship by performing laboratory preparation of tissue specimens for microscopic examination by the pathologists which may include but is not limited to gross assist, frozen sections, processing, embedding, and staining (routine, special and immunohistochemistry). Prepares tissue specimens and performs histological procedures. PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES 1. Accurately embed tissue according to industry standards 2. Produce high-quality tissue sections in an expedient and consistent manner 3. Prepare solutions and reagents for special stain procedures 4. Obtain and validate tissue used in special stains 5. Perform all special stain procedures 6. May prepare solutions and reagents for immunohistochemistry procedures 7. Perform routine, special, and immunohistochemistry staining 8. Maintain accurate patient identification throughout all workflows 9. Perform daily quality control of slides for overall quality of preparation, including but not limited to staining intensity and artifacts 10. Maintain daily quality control logs and other required documentation 11. Maintain equipment and instruments in good operating conditions; acknowledge malfunctions, troubleshoot, and notify supervisor MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education: High school diploma or equivalent Licensure: Florida HTL Certification: HT or HTL ASCP Work Experience: One year laboratory related work experience Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: * Willing and able to work with biohazardous/toxic materials following OSHA guidelines * Must have strong interpersonal skills * Demonstrated organizational skills * Excellent communication skills * Ability to work with computers and can demonstrate basic computer skills * Must be able to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment * Knowledge of quality assurance and quality control procedures * Must be able to work weekends and take call (30-minute response time required) when needed PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS * Visual acuity and manual dexterity to perform clinical/technical tasks * Must pass color blindness test * Must be able to sit for extended periods of time (2-3 hours) * Must be able to sit and operate a computer Health First Melbourne FL
