Located minutes from downtown Austin, Cedar Park Regional Medical Center is a level IV Designated Trauma Center with more than 600 healthcare professionals working together to provide inpatient, outpatient, surgical and emergency care for Cedar Park and the greater Austin region.
Position Overview
Our laboratory is growing, and we are seeking an experienced Medical Technologist to join our team! This is a parttime position. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five (3) years of experience including blood bank in an acute care hospital setting.
The Medical Technologist performs routine and specialized moderate and high complexity laboratory tests on all types of blood and body fluid specimens, ensuring accurate and reliable test results by adhering to a strict quality control program.
Responsibilities
Follows laboratory procedure for specimen collection, handling and processing which is appropriate to the age of the patient
Uses two patient identifiers during collection, receiving, and test processing
Monitors possible effects of pre-analytical variables and follows laboratory procedures for handling specimens that adversely affect test results
Reports test results accurately
Recognizes factors that affect measurements and results and take appropriate action to resolve the issues
Communicate and document relevant patient laboratory testing data including critical result to appropriate healthcare provider for patient's continuum of care in a timely manner
Check and troubleshoot outstanding tests list in a timely manner. Knowledgeable with analysis on analyzers and ability to perform manual test procedures in all areas of the lab
Performs and documents quality control and instrument maintenance in a timely manner in compliance with all departmental procedures and regulatory guidelines
Takes appropriate action to maintain accuracy, precision and notifies appropriate supervisory personnel if unable to resolve issues
Perform tasks in a manner that facilitates work flow and enhances the quality of patient care
Performs proficiency survey according to the policy in a timely manner and accurately
Ability to train and mentor new staff and students in practical application and theory of the general department
Able to effectively operate the Laboratory Computer System for general laboratory and section specific functions
Performs instrument function checks and preventative maintenance procedures according to department's policies and procedures
Assists as needed in all laboratory areas as required to maintain appropriate patient care
Demonstrates willingness to assume additional responsibilities when needed
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology, or related field
Certified as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Lab Technician (MLT) by the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT), or equivalent
Minimum of 3+ years of generalist experience in an acute care hospital laboratory performing blood bank / transfusions required
