Works independently & performs a wide range of medical laboratory tests & procedures to provide data for diagnosis, treatment, & prevention of disease. Guides, trains, & may provide leadership to students, clinicians & technical staff. Has knowledge of & adheres to all related regulatory requirements. Reports to the department or facility Laboratory Clinical Manager.

Essential Functions:

  • High volume laboratory, utilizing highly technical instrumentation on automated lines.

  • Performing a high volume of oncology & other complex differentials. Performs & reports accurate & timely clinical laboratory tests in the Core section of the laboratory.

  • Maintains accurate documentation in accordance w/ accrediting body & laboratory policy.

  • Analyzes & appraises lab results relative to each other & to the pertinent QC data.

  • Solves problems & makes independent decisions.

  • Assists others w/ more difficult procedures or interpretations.

  • Recognizes various age-related needs & provides age appropriate care as indicated.

  • Trains & orients new employees. Provides patient, provider & staff education.

Basic Qualifications:

  • bachelor of Science degree in medical technology or equivalent

  • Current certification as a Medical Technologist registered w/ or eligible for registry (within twelve months of hire) w/ the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or equivalent

  • National Provider Identifier (NPI) & Taxonomy code required at time of hire

  • A competency test will be given when the technologist is interviewed, & must be passed to be considered qualified

  • Ability to master multiple software systems

  • Proficient in cell morphology & identification of abnormal cells

  • Able to process & report WBC differentials in a timely & accurate manner

  • Aptitude for laboratory automation, troubleshooting & multitasking in a fast paced environment

VIEW JOBS 10/17/2020 12:00:00 AM 2021-01-15T00:00 PRIMARY PURPOSE: Under limited direction, this position is responsible for coordinating the testing of biological specimens and reviewing test results and quality assessment data. This position is also responsible for providing skilled technical oversight in the laboratory. Works with other team members to ensure timely, quality test results. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs all assigned duties in compliance with internal SOPs and external regulations. Brings compliance issues to the attention of management. Assures quality customer service to all customers. Hires, supervises, trains, and evaluates performance of assigned personnel. Identifies and effectively resolves personnel issues. Oversees and performs routine testing of biological samples. Ensures completion of reagent preparation, pre-qualification and quality assurance. Maintains accurate records and documentation. Ensures donor, patient and employee confidentiality. Reviews and ensures timely release of test results. Conducts required competency observations and completes documentation. Takes appropriate corrective action as necessary. Provides routine and non-routine training to staff, as required, and ensures all training and/or re-training is documented. Makes recommendations to revise policies and procedures, as appropriate. Oversees the timely completion of survey and proficiency testing. Ensures and performs preventive maintenance, quality assurance and calibrations on equipment. Identifies and repairs more complex equipment malfunctions, performs trouble shooting and notifies appropriate personnel if additional service is needed. Ensures an adequate level of supplies and reagents are maintained. Ensures the cleanliness of equipment and work areas. Ensures adherence to safety guidelines. Investigates deviations in testing, quality control and preventative maintenance. Is responsible for corrective action and brings to the attention of appropriate personnel as necessary. Coordinates and performs evaluations of reagents, equipment and new testing methods. Participates on process improvement teams. Monitors assigned budget. Performs all other duties, at the discretion of management, as assigned. REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge/ Education Bachelor's degree required. Must satisfy CLIA requirements for High Complexity Testing required. Licenses/ Certifications NOTE: Requirements vary based on the specific laboratory. Immunohematology Reference Laboratory (IRL) * Certification as a Medical Technologist or Specialist in Blood Banking (SBB) by a recognized certifying agency required. Histocompatibility Laboratory (HLA) * Certified Histocompatibility Specialist (CHS) required. Cellular Therapy Laboratory (CTL) * Valid driver's license required. * Meet and maintain company driver eligibility required. * Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT), Certified Histocompatibility Technologist (CHT), Certified Histocompatibility Specialist (CHS), Blood Banking Technologist (BB) or Specialist in Blood Banking (SBB) by a recognized certifying agency preferred. Experience NOTE: Requirements vary based on the specific laboratory. Immunohematology Reference Laboratory (IRL) * Seven years clinical laboratory testing experience required. To include: * Two years supervisor experience required. * Two years IRL experience preferred. Histocompatibility Laboratory (HLA) * Seven years clinical laboratory testing experience required.
