Works independently & performs a wide range of medical laboratory tests & procedures to provide data for diagnosis, treatment, & prevention of disease. Guides, trains, & may provide leadership to students, clinicians & technical staff. Has knowledge of & adheres to all related regulatory requirements. Reports to the department or facility Laboratory Clinical Manager.
High volume laboratory, utilizing highly technical instrumentation on automated lines.
Performing a high volume of oncology & other complex differentials. Performs & reports accurate & timely clinical laboratory tests in the Core section of the laboratory.
Maintains accurate documentation in accordance w/ accrediting body & laboratory policy.
Analyzes & appraises lab results relative to each other & to the pertinent QC data.
Solves problems & makes independent decisions.
Assists others w/ more difficult procedures or interpretations.
Recognizes various age-related needs & provides age appropriate care as indicated.
Trains & orients new employees. Provides patient, provider & staff education.

bachelor of Science degree in medical technology or equivalent
Current certification as a Medical Technologist registered w/ or eligible for registry (within twelve months of hire) w/ the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or equivalent
National Provider Identifier (NPI) & Taxonomy code required at time of hire
A competency test will be given when the technologist is interviewed, & must be passed to be considered qualified
Ability to master multiple software systems
Proficient in cell morphology & identification of abnormal cells
Able to process & report WBC differentials in a timely & accurate manner
Aptitude for laboratory automation, troubleshooting & multitasking in a fast paced environment
