Doctors Hospital of Augusta is a 354-bed HCA facility located near the Georgia-South Carolina border. Doctors Hospital is well known for its Joseph M.
Still Burn Center, the largest burn center in the country, which sees more than 3,000 patients annually. In addition, the burn center was recently granted a special burn designation as part of the Georgia Trauma Care Network. This designation included a rigorous review program administered by the American Burn Association (ABA) and the American College of Surgeons (ACA).
Doctors Hospital is certified as a Primary Stroke Center, as well as an Accredited Chest Pain Center. Doctors was recently the first hospital in the area to be designated a Center of Excellence in Women's Health Surgery.
And was one of 244 hospitals nationally to be named a top performer for Key Quality Measures by The Joint Commission. Doctors Hospital was also recognized as one of only 17 hospitals in the state of Georgia placed in the Chairman's Category, the highest category attainable, by the Georgia Hospital Association for clinical outcomes. We are searching for a PRN Nurse Extern position in our Medical Surgical Unit. The Nurse Extern is responsible to the Nursing Director/Charge Nurse for the delivery of quality patient care utilizing the nursing process. Apply your nursing knowledge derived from education and experience as foundation for patient care, communication, and documentation on the unit.
Essential Core Functions:
The nurse extern performs any combination of following duties in care of patients under the direct supervision or delegation of nursing and medical staff: answers call lights, bells, or intercom system to determine patients' needs and fulfills them when applicable. Obtains and administers bed side report.
Completes VS and all delegated tasks associated with them: Records temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respiration rates, pulse oximetry, blood sugars, and food and fluid intake and output as directed, reporting any abnormal findings to nursing STAT. Serves and collects food trays when appropriate.
Performs AM/PM care on all patients which includes but not limited to: Oral care, bathing, toileting, dressing, assisting with all meals, supplements and snacks. Assists with ambulation when appropriate and transports patients using wheelchair, wheeled cart/bed, or assists mobile patients with walking on discharge.
Drapes patients for examinations and treatments, and remains with patients, performing such duties as holding instruments and adjusting lights when applicable. Turns and repositions bedfast patients every 2 hours to prevent bedsores, either alone using a lift or sheet, or with assistance. Changes bed linens, runs errands, directs visitors and answers telephone.
Assists with set up and breakdown of patient rooms. Cleans, sterilizes, stores, prepares and issues dressing packets, treatment trays, and other supplies. Dusts and cleans patients' rooms.
