Position Summary

Under the leadership of the department Director and Assistant Director, the Medical Surgical Clinical Educator supports the strategic learning needs of the organization.

The Medical Surgical Clinical Educator assesses performance gaps, designs learning activities using a wide variety of evidence-based instructional methods, and evaluates program impact using metrics of importance to the organization.

The Medical Surgical Clinical Educator designs and/or facilitates house-wide learning programs, including but not limited to new employee orientation, competency management structures, role development programs, and continuing education. Success in this role requires the ability to increase capacity by working through others - accomplished by designing structures and processes to be leveraged by personnel across the organization in support of onboarding, competency assessment, role development, and continuing education. The Medical Surgical Clinical Educator is also responsible for bedside clinical shifts/nursing support as requested.

Experience

REQUIRED: Previous experience with the facilitation of learning, as an educator, preceptor, or similar role. At least 2 years of acute care nursing experience (within last 4 years) in alignment with clinical focus of the role.

DESIRED: Instructional design skills; experience with the evaluation of learning.

Education

BSN required; MSN preferred.

Licensure/Certifications

State of California RN license required.

American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS (required)

Related specialty certification within one year (MEDSURG-BC, ONC, OCN, CNE/CNE-Cl, NPD, or other related certification)
