Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Medical Service Assistant for the Department of Family Medicine within the New Jersey Medical School.Under the direction of the Student Health Services Director, Medical Services Assistant will support the Mental Health services at Student Health, ensure the flow of patients, to manage blood-borne exposures, to perform the duties of a phlebotomist, provide the prompt collection and processing of specimens for the reference laboratories.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience Certifications/Licenses

  • Applicants must be certified as a Medical Assistant through one of the following certifying boards: American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), registration from the American Medical Technologists (AMT), certification from National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), or equivalent.

  • Certification in phlebotomy, CPR and EKG.

  • Candidates without EKG certification may apply (certification must be obtained within one (1) year).

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must have attained a satisfactory level of comprehension and experience in the administration of intramuscular and subcutaneous injection techniques.

  • Applicants must be able to take temperatures, pulse, blood pressures and other simple procedures where indicated.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited program in medical assisting or its equivalent plus at least one (1) year of related experience in amedical/clinical office setting.

Equipment Utilized

Medical office with patient flow, computers, and printers. Exposure to blood borne pathogens that requires use of personal protective equipment.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Position requires standing 1/3 of the time walking 1/3 of the time, sitting 1/3 of the time.

  • Position requires lifting up to ten (10) lbs
