Job Description Summary

Responsible for greeting donors at the plasma collection center and conducting a series of registration procedures to verify donor suitability for the plasma pheresis process.

Job Description

1 In compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), assists qualified donors in completing the screening process. The screening procedures includes but are not limited to: assessing the self-administered health history, answering basic medical questions associated with the donation process, referring donors to medical staff when appropriate and performing health screening procedures such as blood pressure, pulse, weight, temperature. Performs finger stick to obtain sample to obtain donor's hematocrit and total protein levels.

2 Upon completion of the appropriate training, may educate new donors on the use of therapeutic products made from donated plasma. This includes explaining the screening process, the health screening tests performed, the appointment system, donation fees, center policies, proper nutrition and any other information pertinent to the donor. Ensures that all donor questions are answered timely, accurately and professionally.

3 May be involved in registering applicant and transfer donors based upon completion of appropriate training and operational needs of the center.

4 May answer the telephone and answer callers question or transfer call to appropriate staff member.

5 Maintains alertness and awareness to any reaction by a donor may have during or after the pheresis process and notifies appropriate staff.

6 Alerts Group Leader or Supervisor of donor flow issues.

7 Ensures the accurate recording of donor data in the electronic donor information management system as outlined in the SOPs.

8 Understands the policies and procedures associated with hyper immune programs at the center if applicable.

9 Maintains clean efficient work environment and ensures sufficient operating supplies and forms are available as needed. Follows all Health Safety & Environmental (HSE) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) policies and procedures. Promotes safety in all actions.

10 Maintains confidentiality of all personnel, donor and center information.

11 May be cross-trained in other areas to meet the needs of the business.

12 Bilingual skills may be required, at the discretion of the organization, to meet the needs of the business.

13 Perform other job-related duties as assigned.


  • High school diploma or equivalent required


  • Minimum of three (3) months experience in a clerical or customer service related position, preferably in medical or health provider environment or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Must be able to perform basic math calculations

  • Fast paced environment with frequent interruptions

  • Frequently exposed to hazardous chemicals, extreme temperatures and to blood borne pathogens

  • Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment while performing specific tasks or in certain areas

  • Required to work overtime and extended hours to support center operational needs

We are seeking a HME Homecare Technician 1 - Home Medical Equipment Distribution who will be responsible for providing home medical equipment according to physician orders in a variety of living situations including private residences and long term care facilities. This position is accountable for the safe use of home medical equipment through evaluation of the living environment and education of patients, caregivers, and clinicians on the correct use and function of equipment provided. This is a patient facing position that functions independently. This position performs home environmental safety inspections to include safe access into the home, safe use of equipment in a multi-level home, safe use of supplemental oxygen in living environment including smoke detectors, and working electrical outlets. Reviews the disaster preparedness instruction pamphlet and patient rights and responsibilities with the patient/caregiver. Performs customer service functions and facilitates minor equipment repairs. Follows The Joint Commission, Oregon State Health Administration, and Oregon Department of Transportation and Washington Department of Transportation regulatory guidelines and completes all required documentation. Providence HME provides a variety of home medical equipment to support a "hospital at home" setting, including oxygen systems, respiratory equipment, hospital beds and mobility equipment for patients who require medical equipment to recuperate and function in a home setting post hospitalization and for management life limiting illnesses. In this position you will have the following responsibilities: * Provide home medical equipment in home and long-term care settings * Plan, coordinate and prioritize patient encounters according to clinical need, timing of hospital discharge, and productivity objectives * Communicates and negotiates schedule with patients and caregivers initially and throughout the day to accommodate changing priorities * Perform home environmental safety assessment evaluating each living situation for potential hazards related to the specific equipment being provided including, but not limited to, oxygen systems, hospital beds, wheelchairs, and other mobility equipment * Facilitate the safe use of home medical equipment through education of patients, caregivers, and clinicians on the correct use and function of home medical equipment provided * Demonstrate ongoing competency of manufacturer specifications and suggested usage of a wide variety of home medical equipment * Demonstrate competency of best known ways for safe patient care using home medical equipment * Follow Department of Transportation rules and regulations for operating HME fleet vehicles including daily vehicle inspection, maintaining logs, and maintenance of appropriate safety equipment * Maintain vehicles and equipment according to The Joint Commission standards * Evaluate and maintain vehicle inventory of essential home medical equipment and supplies to support daily schedule * Be responsible for completion of all delivery documentation including signatures on delivery ticket, equipment safety checklist, patient education materials, financial disclosures, consent to treat forms * Be responsible for completion of compliance documentation including oxygen lot numbers, and asset and/or serial numbers * Establish and maintains relationships with patients, clinicians, physicians, payers, case managers, clinical liaisons, clinical support staff, and discharge planners using advanced customer service skills * Provide cost disclosure and collects coinsurance at the time of delivery Required qualifications for this position includes: * High school Diploma -OR- GED * Valid driver's license * No more than one moving violation or one chargeable accident within the last three years * In compliance with Providence Health & Services-OR Human Resources policy # 302 'Background Checks' a criminal background check is required for this position prior to hire Preferred qualifications for this position includes: * One (1) year of experience in the home medical equipment industry * One (1) year of experience in customer service About Providence in Oregon As the largest healthcare system and largest private employer in Oregon, Providence offers exceptional work environments and unparalleled career opportunities.
