Position Profile

The Medical Science Liaison will:

  • Enhance Jazz Pharmaceuticals' image as an advocate of medical advancement by using knowledge of product, disease state and pipeline products to engage healthcare providers in meaningful scientific exchange of information

  • Present scientific and clinical data for Jazz's marketed products

  • Develop and maintain successful relationships with key opinion leaders, clinical investigators, and providers at academic and non-academic settings in order to achieve mutually agreed upon objectives (i.e., investigator-initiated studies, publications, etc.)

  • Consistently demonstrate a positive, collaborative attitude that exemplifies ownership of business, partnership with key opinion leaders, teamwork with peers, and respect of supervisors, peers, and customers

  • Possess an established medical/scientific background and a proven ability to effectively communicate complex information

  • Develop and prioritize solutions to problems, understand relationship between actions and results, and be able to understand and appreciate needs of the healthcare community

Essential Requirements:

  • The following education is required:

  • Advanced degree (PharmD, MD, PhD or equivalent) with a minimum of 3 years' experience in Oncology. Solid tumor experience preferred.

OR

  • License (RN, NP, CNP, PA or equivalent) with a minimum of a Master's Degree (or equivalent) and a minimum of 5 years' experience in Oncology, solid tumor experience preferred.

  • A minimum of 2 years' experience as a MSL or comparable industry or clinical role is required.

  • Knowledge of geography and key opinion leaders preferred

  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills as well as interpersonal skills

  • Understanding of regulatory requirements for field-based personnel

  • Ability to collaborate with internal colleagues in sales, marketing, and managed care accounts

  • Ability to deliver scientific and clinical presentations to many types of audiences, including managed care

  • Ability and willingness to travel at least 60% of work days required

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as required

  • PowerPoint and Excel skills required

  • Frequent travel between meeting sites.

  • Frequently operating a computer, printer, telephone and other similar office machinery.

Description of Work Environment

  • Frequent interactions with external contacts in their office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, fumes, vibrations and temperature changes.

  • Frequent computer laptop or tablet use, not usually at a workstation.

  • Responsibilities may require a work schedule that may include working outside of "normal" work hours, in order to meet business demands.

  • Frequent public contact requiring appropriate business apparel.

The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a field-based scientific expert that executes Pacira's medical affairs strategy. This individual is responsible for identifying and fostering professional relationships with national, regional, and local key opinion leaders (KOLs) who are involved clinical practice and research activities within a specified territory. The primary role of the MSL is to conduct scientific exchange with Health Care Providers (HCPs), communicate clinical and business insights to Pacira, and support evidence generation initiatives in the assigned therapeutic area(s) within a specified territory. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and the level of work being performed by an individual assigned to this job. Other duties may be assigned. * Identify, develop and manage relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs) and other prominent HCPs as they relate to both Pacira marketed and pipeline products. * Engage in scientific exchange with KOLs and HCPs regarding the efficacy, safety and value of Pacira's products and related clinical practice trends. * Provide scientific/educational presentations to internal and external customers to promote disease state awareness and the appropriate use of Pacira's products. * Respond to unsolicited requests for information, including scientific literature, protocols/guidelines, and peer to peer connections according to Pacira's compliance policies. * Identify, collect, and communicate insights related to competitor medical information, research, and clinical practice trends, including key insights from medical conferences. * Engage with HCPs regarding the clinical and economic value of Pacira's products in support of healthcare system formulary evaluations, drug utilization evaluations, and quality improvement projects. * Facilitate discussions between KOLs and Pacira HQ regarding unsolicited request for assistance with research grant submission and publications. * Support internal interdepartmental needs as related to product life-cycle management, successfully connecting KOLs internally to serve as advisors, investigators, expert speakers, or clinical consultants * Maintain clinical, scientific, and value expertise in relevant product and disease state areas. * Demonstrate proficiency in the critical evaluation of scientific literature and clinical trial methodology. * Successfully complete required therapeutic training and demonstrate competency in communicating information in support of the surgical, pain management and/or anesthesia areas. * Document field interactions in appropriate databases, retain and submit required expense documentation, and meet defined qualitative and quantitative objectives. * Successfully comply with all Pacira policies and procedures, principles and values, and applicable laws, regulations, and guidelines. * Position requires extensive travel (up to 80%) as well as evening and weekend work throughout the year. Education and Experience: * Clinical or health sciences degree required with current or previous professional licensure required strongly preferred (e.g., RN, RPh, PharmD, PA, DNP, MD, or PhD in a medically related field) from an accredited college or university. * Minimum 3 years of pharmaceutical or device industry field medical experience, or relevant clinical practice experience required. * Minimum 2 years of experience in the perioperative, anesthesia, or pain management therapeutic area preferred.
