Job Description:

The Medical Resident is a physician in a specialty training program. The Resident shall abide by the policies set forth by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), Fairfield Medical Center, and the Department of Graduate Medical Education. The residency shall be characterized by a specialty-oriented range of inpatient and outpatient clinical experiences in the management of patients with a wide spectrum of health problems.

  • Demonstrate knowledge appropriate to the level of training in basic and clinical sciences; continued advancement in comprehensive understanding of complex relationships, mechanisms of disease. Participate in the clinical evaluation and care of patients in a variety of patient care settings with sufficient frequency to achieve the competencies required by their discipline under the direct supervision of the attending staff.

  • Must be evaluated for judgment, anticipation or treatment of complications, and the maturity of development of doctor-patient relationship. Assume progressive responsibility for patient care activities according to the residents level of education, ability and experience. The program director and the attending staff will determine the residents level of responsibility and autonomy. Residents may write orders and notes in the patients chart, although attending physician retain responsibility for the care of patients seen by resident and must review the care of their patients.

  • Residents are expected to learn from past experience of themselves, their mentors and fellow residents. Perform procedures, which are specified by each program director, under the supervision of attending physicians. Resident may only perform those procedures for which the attending physician has privileges.

  • Must establish highly effective relationship with patients and families; demonstrate excellent communication through listening, narrative and nonverbal skills; excellent education and counseling of patients, families, and colleagues; always consider needs of patients, families and colleagues. Communicate effectively with supervising attending regarding the findings of their evaluation, physical examination, interpretation of diagnostic test, and intended interventions on a continuous basis.

  • Ability to maintain the standards expected of a professional behavior in public as well as private. Patients recognize professionalism as the practice of a dedicated professional who cares for the patient's welfare. Fellow professionals recognize professional as collegial relationships and efficient practice management.

  • The ability to work within a system, including cooperative utilization of shared resources, compliance with regulations either imposed from outside or established for the mutual interest of medical community and hospital administration. Timely completion of medical records, being medically savvy in documentation, and knowledge of medical economics.

  • Must attend required morning/noon conferences; CORE Residency Program Advisory Committee Educational Days; and other didactic sessions as assigned. Participate in appropriate institutional committees whose actions affect their education and/or patient care including, but not limited to quality assurance and quality improvement activities. Participate in the educational and scholarly activities of the program and, as required assume responsibility for teaching and supervising residents.

Qualifications

Job Qualifications:

  • DO or MD Degree.

  • Ohio State Medical Board training certificate.

  • Membership in respective specialty colleges; DOs also in AOA.

  • Successful completion of Level I, II (PGY-1) and III (PGY-2 and 3) examinations administered by COMLEX or USMLE.

  • Must meet eligibility outlined in the ACGME common program and specialty specific program requirements.

Exerting up to 20-50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10-25 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible up to 10 pounds amount of force often.
