Position Description
Employees in this classification provide support in an assigned research laboratory conducting specified phases of research projects. Performs work independently and is responsible for developing new procedures and techniques to be utilized in the laboratory and in experiments, and new applications for standard procedures and techniques. Work is performed under usual laboratory conditions. Some hazards may be present due to use of radioactive, carcinogenic or other potentially harmful substances. Responsibilities also include ensuring overall cleanliness of the laboratory and laboratory equipment, and ordering and maintaining an adequate stock of necessary supplies. May instruct or direct work of subordinate laboratory personnel.
Preferred Qualifications
General experience and expertise in laboratory techniques broadly used in biochemistry, cell biology, and molecular biology research, including handling and processing animal tissues and working with advanced instrumentation.
Experiences in successfully working with cell lines, viral transduction, three-dimensional cell cultures, handling mice, genotyping and treating mice would be a plus.
Experiences in basic immunohistochemistry (IHC), fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) and microscopy would be a plus.
B.A., B.S., or M.S. in Biology, Biochemistry, or Chemistry.
Capable of conceptualizing, designing experiments and conducting studies independently would be a plus.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in one of the sciences, or equivalent combination (four (4) years) of job-related experience and college education. Experience may be substituted for college education on a year for year basis.
