The Health Information Management Services (HIMS) Department works within a team to deliver quality medical record management outcomes. As the heartbeat of any healthcare facility, the individuals within this department bridge roles, connecting clinical, operational, and administrative functions to all clientele. These professionals affect the quality of patient information at every touch point within the programs while maintaining the highest standards of data integrity, confidentiality, and information security.
Within this department, the Medical Records Transcriptionist transcribes medical record documentation for Direct Care & Treatment (DCT) programs. The Medical Records Transcriptionist demonstrates flexibility to assist co-workers in a team environment to accomplish a variety of tasks in order of priority. Knowledge of data privacy law, State and Federal statutes, HIPAA guidelines are important to maintain confidentiality and security of patients' medical records.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
Transcribing medical record documentation and other documents as assigned
Verifying census information for accuracy and ensuring compliance with applicable policies and procedures
Responding to customers in person, through mail, telephone calls or email requests
Managing the integrity of protected health information
Customer Service skills sufficient to respond to internal and external customers in a courteous, prompt and effective manner on the phone or via email
Data Entry skills sufficient to locate, update, and retrieve health information from a variety of databases
Dictaphone/Tape transcription skills sufficient to transcribe medical and psychiatric documents including assessments, progress notes, court reports, etc.
English Language skills sufficient to read, write, and understand with proficiency in spelling, grammar, and punctuation used in medical/treatment records
Specialized Terminology including medical, psychiatric and legal terminology
Word processing skills sufficient to develop, format, and modify a variety of correspondence, records, reports and forms
Experience using transcription equipment and software
Experience using the Avatar program
Technical education in Medical Records Management or Health Information Management
