Cypress Creek Hospital is seeking a dynamic and talented Medical Records (HIM) Coder.

Cypress Creek Hospital, a freestanding 128-bed facility, located in north Houston, has been faithfully serving Houston and surrounding communities for over 20 years. We are dedicated to the provision of quality care and assistance for individuals and families in need of psychiatric care and treatment for substance abuse and offer a broad range of inpatient, partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient services for adolescents and adults.

The HIM Coder is responsible for ensuring accurate accounting of all discharged patient medical records and coding within hospital/department guidelines. The HIM Coder also provides back up assistance for chart checks to ensure continuous flow of charts toward completion status.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Accurate and timely classification of diagnoses and procedures by following ICD 10-CM, Medicare, Medicaid and other fiscal intermediary guidelines.

  • Efficient utilization of the computerized encoder system to facilitate accurate coding.

  • Ensure discharges are coded within 48 hours.

  • Work cooperatively with the medical staff and other healthcare professionals in obtaining documentation to complete medical records.

  • Maintain confidentiality as per hospital, state, federal, TJC, CMS and TDSHS guidelines.

Job Requirements

Position Requirements:

Education: Associates degree in Health Information Technology.

Experience: Minimum two (2) years coding experience, preferably in a hospital setting.

Licensure: None

Certifications: RHIT/Coder (though AHIMA) certification preferred.
