Job Description Job Description Medical Receptionist/ Assistant - Physician Practice in Houston, TX SERIOUS ENQUIRIES ONLY This job is for a medical receptionist/ assistant in a surgical practice that has offices in Houston, TX and has been open for about 10 years. Under direct supervision and guided by the physician or the medical supervisor, the receptionist/ assistant will functions as the contact person for new and returning patients requiring ambulatory care at a physician office practice. Responsibilities include answering the phone and taking adequate messages, scheduling appointment, surgery and test scheduling, filling out intake forms with patients, chart preparation, pre-registering, verifying insurance, obtaining referrals and authorizations and coordination of required medical and financial information. S/he is knowledgeable about computerized appointment scheduling and patient registration systems. S/he will also obtain insurance authorization information from health care plans for the practice and must be able to abstract clinical data from medical records to answer questions for insurance companies, certain provider and law offices. The medical receptionist/ assistant is responsible for accurate completion of tasks involved in supporting one (or more) medical providers in the practice. S/he must be able to schedule/work for different providers within the practice, understanding the different requirements and needs of each type of provider and service. S/he must be able to work as a team member with other practice staff and consistently projects a professional and courteous demeanor. S/he is required to comply with the adequate medical and administrative standards. S/he must pay close attention to detail and demonstrate honesty, integrity and excellent customer service skills with patients and staff. Required Qualifications: Strong computer experience working in a Windows environment. Basic keyboarding and computer abilities Knowledge of medical terminology. Excellent written/verbal communication skills in English. Ability to understand and communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to effectively interact with patients, department staff and other medical professionals. Ability to prioritize workload and complete work assignments in a multi-tasked environment. Ability to work in a busy, team-oriented environment. Ability to perform basic arithmetic computations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division). Willingness to learn new tasks. Excellent customer service skills. High school diploma. Preferred Qualifications: 2-4 years of experience working in a health care/physician office practice. Demonstrated experience with insurance verification, medical record data abstraction, and patient financial services. Bi-lingual or multi-lingual capability (Spanish) preferred.
