CallisonRTKL seeks an Architect/Senior Medical Planner with extensive project delivery experience to join its Healthcare group located in Dallas, TX. The position is focused on the strategic and medical planning of mid-to-large scale national and international healthcare projects.


  • Supervises and provides medical planning expertise to team members and the firm-wide healthcare practice

  • Develops a comprehensive understanding of a client's program requirements, standards and policies for incorporation into the design solution

  • Provides expert technical knowledge in the design and planning of various types of healthcare facilities

  • Anticipates and develops solutions to technical and design problems following established standards

  • Develops, modifies and/or reviews medical planning concepts and design solutions

  • Prepares and modifies architectural documentation and communicates planning concepts for project team members, both verbally and through graphic and written reports

  • Leads or participates in client user group meetings to collect program needs and present design solutions for healthcare facilities

  • Actively seeks new knowledge in the design and planning of medical and healthcare facilities

  • Mentors and directs the work of less experienced staff

  • Promotes the principles of sustainable design


  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture or related design field

  • 9+ years of Medical Planning experience focused on a variety of healthcare projects, including new acute care or ambulatory facilities, additions or renovations and/or large-scale complex healthcare campuses

  • Proficient knowledge of guidelines for design and construction of healthcare facilities

  • Professional registration preferred

  • Proficient basic hand and CAD drafting skills

  • Experience with Revit, Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign preferred

  • Ability to prioritize and concurrently service multiple projects

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Effective problem solving and interpersonal skills and ability to interface with all clients and employees

  • Interacts well with other disciplines and clients in a manner that builds productive relationships

  • Knowledge of sustainable principles and LEED accreditation preferred

  • Desire to grow team professionals through education and mentoring

  • Ability to balance the needs of projects with corporate goals

  • International travel may be required

Responsibilities * Coordinates efforts/communications between internal and external contacts * Evaluates, locates and recommends complex equipment (i.e. Imaging, Integrated OR, Lab Systems, etc.) to be purchased for new medical facilities, major renovations and expansions of existing medical facilities * Facilitates meetings with medical personnel to establish appropriate placement and use of complex, integrated medical equipment * Assists the Owner/Client with the selection of technologically complex medical equipment and related systems * Assembles complex medical equipment specifications and coordinates the development of healthcare systems vendor drawings * Participates in coordination meetings for the development of construction documentation on the complex medical equipment planned * Develops and manages medical equipment budgets for healthcare construction projects * Leads in the development of Architecturally Significant Equipment documents * Provides technology assessment/valuation analysis for medical equipment for hospital clients * Manages all assigned projects, to include but not limited to Billings, Account Receivables, Staffing, etc. * Maintains knowledge and understanding of emerging technologies and products * Reads and interprets construction documents, drawings and architectural plans * Develops and manages project work plans on all projects within the Vision software system and master project schedule * Assists in developing standards and processes for technology integration and planning services * Supports the business development process by identifying new opportunities, marketing current clients for repeat business, and assisting with proposals, add services and schedules * Contributes, as required, articles for publication and/or presentations for technology forums and seminars Requirements * Bachelor's degree in Clinical Engineering, Nursing, Nursing Informatics, Radiology or other clinical related field preferred * Experience with complex/integrated medical technology preferred * Effectively manage essential functions by consistently driving for quality, profitable and timely results on assigned projects * Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to service multiple projects at the same time * Excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to interface with internal and external clients * Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office * Familiarity with AutoCAD, 3D drafting software and project management software preferred * Experience in acute care setting preferred * Prior asset management and/or capital equipment planning experience preferred * Comfortable presenting to internal and external groups * Certified project management professional desirable * Demonstrate leadership skills * Approximately 50% travel Apply On-line Send This Job to a Friend © CallisonRTKL Inc.
