Medical Physicist Needed in Texas

A radiation therapy facility is seeking a Medical Physicist to join their team, will float between three sites in Texas, locations are fifteen minutes apart. The facilities have two Varian and one Elekta. They do several HDR's, the chosen candidate does not require to have HDR experience, they will train.They have currently 1 CMD, 2 RTT's, and 1 Oncologist on each site and it will be a total of two Physicists.

Medical Physicist Job description

  • This is a permanent position planning and ensuring safe and accurate treatment of Radiation Oncology patients.
  • Use their knowledge of physics to test and assess medical equipment and technology to help diagnose and treat cancer patients.
  • Educate patients and other medical professionals about technical procedures.
  • Meet with patients and liaise with attending physicians to prepare detailed patient records, Keepa close eye on all equipment and systems to ensure accurate performance and output.
  • The Medical Physicist will perform 90% clinical duties and 10% administrative.

  • Ph.D. or Masters
  • Board Certified or Eligible
  • ABR Certified.
  • Two (2) years of experience as a Medical Physicist
  • Able to Work autonomously and efficiently.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Great interpersonal skills and team working abilities.

The vision of J&J's new Center for Device Innovation at the Texas Medical Center (CDI @ TMC) is to significantly impact healthcare by accelerating the development of breakthrough medical technologies. As a collaboration between Johnson & Johnson Medical Devices Companies, Johnson & Johnson Innovation, and the Texas Medical Center, CDI @ TMC brings together the unique strengths and resources across these great enterprises to create a novel approach for medical device innovation. The team, resources, and access to expertise through CDI enables needs-based ideation, rapid technology prototyping, and pre-clinical / clinical testing with shorter timelines and capital efficiency. There are 3 primary modes of engagement to accelerate medical device development: 1) internal technologies based on concepts generated at CDI or one of J&J's family of companies, 2) external technologies based on IP transferred from universities, hospitals, and inventors, and 3) external companies which take residence at CDI. The team at CDI has a proven track record of successful medical devices and has flexibility to engage in new opportunities across a spectrum of different services and needs, including: independent development, collaborative co-development, machining / prototyping, design for manufacturing, and strategic advising. Summary of Position: CDI is currently recruiting for a new Principal Engineer to be based in Houston, TX. This position will be the technical team lead on internal projects to develop new technologies at CDI. The focus of the work is on early-stage concept development and feasibility to de-risk the technology and demonstrate proof-of-concept. The principal engineer will be responsible for all parts of the development process, including: project planning, conducting customer research, defining technical requirements and design parameters, creating new and innovative concepts, modeling, fabrication of working prototypes, lab and pre-clinical testing, design iterations and problem-solving, risk analysis, and validation. Additional responsibilities include providing guidance and technical direction to the engineering team and working closely with both internal and external stakeholders and experts. Key Responsibilities: * Drive development of early-stage technologies to achieve de-risking milestones * Translate customer & marketing insights into technical design requirements and product specifications * Apply fundamental engineering principles to achieve design requirements and inputs * Brainstorm and ideate potential new concepts, designs, and technology solutions for systems or components * Design, draft, and develop initial models and prototypes of concepts * Perform product testing and analysis to understand design performance and capabilities * Rapidly iterate new designs and prototypes to refine and optimize performance and demonstrate feasibility * Inventing and patent new ideas and design concepts * Work with other engineering team members and cross-functional partners in clinical / medical, marketing, finance, regulatory, quality, etc. * Develop project plans, budgets, work scope, timelines, and resourcing * Learn new medical terminology, surgical procedures & instrumentation as needed * Mentor engineering staff Qualifications * Minimum of Bachelor's Degree in Engineering is required; Mechanical, Electrical, or Biomedical engineering is preferred, and an advanced degree (MS or PhD) is strongly preferred. * Minimum 10 years of relevant design and development work experience is required. * Minimum 5 years of experience in the medical device field is strongly preferred. * Demonstrated technical leadership capabilities with experience working in a collaborative, multi-functional team environment is required * Experience throughout the product development lifecycle from concept to commercialization is required, and demonstrated success with front-end innovation is strongly preferred. * Demonstrated ability for creative problem-solving, inventing, and ideation is strongly preferred. * Effective interpersonal skills & the ability to partner with internal & external customers is strongly preferred. * Knowledge of general design engineering and DFMA principles, component manufacturing processes, tooling methodologies and material properties is required. * Experience with CAD/CAM and design analysis software is required, and experience with design of experiments (DOE), mechanical testing, and geometric tolerances (GD&T) is strongly preferred. * Experience working with vendors and suppliers is required. * Project planning and management skills are strongly preferred, with a demonstrated ability to organize work independently and prioritize multiple tasks and activities. * Strong analytical skills and synthesis of data across a range of different disciplines / fields is strongly preferred. * Effective oral and written communication skills are required, with experience in technical writing of protocols / procedures, test results, project reports and updates. * Experience with intellectual property is required, including patent disclosures, landscaping, and analysis of prior art. * Ability to deal with a high degree of ambiguity or uncertainty in a dynamic environment, and adapting to changing conditions is strongly preferred. * This role may require some travel up to 10% (domestic and/or international).
