Medical Oncology Team Nurse

Willamette Valley Cancer Institute and Research Center - Central Oregon's largest private Cancer Care Clinic group, is looking for an exceptional Registered Nurse (RN) to join the team at their Eugene, OR location. This individual must possess strong multi-tasking abilities and bring positivity and passion to their work. The general pay scale for this position at WVCI is $38.00 - $54.40. The actual hiring rate is dependent on many factors, including but not limited to: prior work experience, education, job/position responsibilities, location, work performance, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement, coordinate, evaluate and promote the continuity of care consistent with established standards and practices.

  • Provide professional nursing care to patients and working in compliance with the standards of professional nursing, oncology, and the practice.

  • Provide assistance to patients' families and caregivers to achieve timely access to quality healthcare within a community oncology setting.

  • Assesses health status by interviewing patient regarding current status and medical history.

  • Collects and records nursing assessment and interventions.

  • Reviews and reports the results of the health status assessment and physical examination, pertinent laboratory data, radiographic data, and psychosocial assessment of assigned patients to the provider.

  • Assesses patient/family needs and provides teaching and other instructional material.

  • Provides psychosocial support to patients and families.

  • Maintains patient confidentiality and privacy.

  • Maintains work environment.

  • Leads care team huddles.

  • Facilitates clinical operations and patient care.

  • Leads and coordinates care by delegating to both clinical and non-clinical personnel to deliver high-quality patient care while also following evidence-based practice guidelines.

  • Manages patient medication refill requests from the pharmacy telephone line and records the information in the patient chart.

  • Assists providers with exams and procedures.

  • Maintains efficient and appropriate patient flow in and out of exam rooms.

  • Facilitates and schedules consultations, pre-testing, diagnostic tests, or procedures, referrals, and future appointments for patients.

  • Triages patient phone calls as needed and documents relevant information in the patient's chart.

  • Facilitates communication between the patient/family and the interdisciplinary team and coordinates services related to patient care, including providing comprehensive patient and caregiver education.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Interprofessional collaboration.

  • Assist and collaborate with clinical research.

  • Acts as a resource to LPN/LVNs and medical assistants.

  • Provides nursing coverage for the satellite offices as needed.

  • Participates in professional development activities and maintains knowledge of oncology nursing by participating in ongoing educational opportunities.

  • Be the nurse champion for practice-wide initiatives.

  • Restocks supply area as needed. Follows OSHA guidelines when handling cytotoxic agents, biohazardous waste and any other material potentially infected with a blood borne pathogen. Maintains all disinfection protocols. Maintains equipment according to quality control standards.

Qualifications

  • Associates in Nursing degree from an accredited program for professional nursing education; BSN strongly preferred

  • At least three (3) years experience as a Registered Nurse preferred, but open to new grads

  • Active Oregon State RN; Current OCN certification preferred

  • Current CPR/BLS certification

  • Must maintain continuing education requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to direct contact with patients with potential for exposure to toxic substances, medicinal preparations, and chemotherapeutic agents.
