Medical Oncology Certified Nurse

Part Time, 0.8; Hours: Clinic Hours as needed with patient load

Wellness Center - Vacaville

Job Summary:

  • In collaboration with other cancer care providers and health team members, you will utilize oncology focused assessment skills and knowledge to coordinate and provide comprehensive care throughout the cancer disease continuum.

  • In this role you will also be a patient advocate and educator, as well as a liaison between inpatient, outpatient and home care.

  • Using the nursing process you will provide patient care, to include: administering infusion treatments, monitoring patients during and after treatments; assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the nursing care of patients receiving treatment; assessing for any adverse reactions to treatment, evaluating patient response to treatment, and managing symptoms related to treatments as well as to the disease process.

  • To be successful you must demonstrate problem solving and decision making skills, close attention to detail, and sensitivity and empathy in all interactions with patients and caregivers.

  • Your role will be to assure that organizational standards for Joint Commission, Patient Safety and the Department of Health will be met or exceeded.

  • In addition, you will be a specialized resource for the nursing departments and Patient Care Services Division. This will be accomplished by providing education of NorthBay staff nurses in regards to caring for oncology patients, case consultation, or program services on an ongoing basis.


  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • BSN is required (excludes those employees grandfathered as outlined in March 2014 letter).

Licensure and Certifications:

  • Current, Valid and unencumbered California RN License.

  • Current AHA BLS certification or equivalent.

  • Must have ONS Chemotherapy Provider Certification,

  • National OCN certification preferred but must obtain within 3 years

Experience, Knowledge, and

  • Minimum of two year's oncology infusion center or acute care experience with oncology emphasis working with adults.

  • Demonstrates competence in clinical specialty (oncology), experienced in the administration of chemotherapy and biologics including the recognition and management of adverse side effects.

  • Demonstrates effective time management.

  • Capable of working independently.

  • Is able to provide formal education/in-service to staff and /or patients.

The Clinic Supervisor responsibilities include but are not limited to: oversight of the day-to-day operations, scheduling support and supervision for the clinic/s, staffing, continuity of care and services, compliance with corporate, regulatory and professional standards. The Clinic Supervisor is responsible for monitoring and auditing clinic operations, including ensuring appropriate competencies are maintained by provider and staff members within the medical office. In partnership with the Practice Manager, the Clinic Supervisor fosters multi-disciplinary collaborative relationships among physicians, providers, and staff. The focus of the Supervisor is patient experience, throughput, access, and quality patient care delivery. The Clinic Supervisor may also engage in direct patient care, as appropriate for licensure or certification, within the medical office setting. The Clinic Supervisor performs a combination of duties encompassing staffing, payroll, orientation and competency of the PSR/MA staff. The Clinic Supervisor participates in leadership activities as requested, adheres to system policies, and functions as part of the customer service team in support of the practice. This position interfaces with multiple departments. Education: * High school graduate or GED required. Associate degree or six years of clinic experience and/or Medical Group administration experience. Licensure and Certifications: * Current AHA or equivalent BLS required within 90 days of hire. Experience, Knowledge, and Skills: * Minimum of five years of experience in a medical front and back office setting with experience and knowledge of health insurance/ benefit requirements or Medical Group administration experience. * Previous supervisory and/or leadership experience preferred. * Strong organizational skills as well as written/spoken communication skills essential. Ability to work independently on a variety of complex tasks, managing competing deadlines. * Demonstrated working knowledge of Windows, Outlook, and Microsoft Word/Excel. Knowledge of medical terminology, and insurance rules and regulations preferred. * Knowledge of worker's compensation preferred. * Detail oriented with typing and computer entry ability and a working knowledge of general office machines required. * Knowledge of STIX and Cerner preferred.
