Medical Oncology Certified Nurse

Part Time, 0.8; Hours: Clinic Hours as needed with patient load

Wellness Center - Vacaville

Job Summary:

  • In collaboration with other cancer care providers and health team members, you will utilize oncology focused assessment skills and knowledge to coordinate and provide comprehensive care throughout the cancer disease continuum.

  • In this role you will also be a patient advocate and educator, as well as a liaison between inpatient, outpatient and home care.

  • Using the nursing process you will provide patient care, to include: administering infusion treatments, monitoring patients during and after treatments; assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the nursing care of patients receiving treatment; assessing for any adverse reactions to treatment, evaluating patient response to treatment, and managing symptoms related to treatments as well as to the disease process.

  • To be successful you must demonstrate problem solving and decision making skills, close attention to detail, and sensitivity and empathy in all interactions with patients and caregivers.

  • Your role will be to assure that organizational standards for Joint Commission, Patient Safety and the Department of Health will be met or exceeded.

  • In addition, you will be a specialized resource for the nursing departments and Patient Care Services Division. This will be accomplished by providing education of NorthBay staff nurses in regards to caring for oncology patients, case consultation, or program services on an ongoing basis.

Education:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • BSN required

Licensure and Certifications:

  • Current, Valid and unencumbered California RN License.

  • Current AHA BLS certification or equivalent.

  • Must have ONS Chemotherapy Provider Certification,

  • National OCN certification preferred but must obtain within 3 years

Experience, Knowledge, and

Skills:
  • Minimum of two year's oncology infusion center or acute care experience with oncology emphasis working with adults.

  • Demonstrates competence in clinical specialty (oncology), experienced in the administration of chemotherapy and biologics including the recognition and management of adverse side effects.

  • Demonstrates effective time management.

  • Capable of working independently.

  • Is able to provide formal education/in-service to staff and /or patients.
