Minimum Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or GED required. Associate Degree or continued administrative education preferred.

Experience: Minimum of two years prior experience in a physician office/medical office, data processing and/or with multi-line telephones preferred. Previous registration and/or medical insurance experience preferred.

Other Minimum Qualifications:
Must be customer driven, have strong grammar, spelling and punctuation skills, knowledge of medical terminology, knowledge of office procedures and equipment, proficiency in computer data entry/keyboarding, ability to use electronic medical records and good organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of Microsoft software applications preferred (Word, Excel). Ability to multi-task essential.

Come bring your ASCP Clinical Lab Scientist (CLS) or Medical Technologist (MT) license and passion for blood banking to support the life-saving mission of the American Red Cross Blood Services. We are looking for a full time Medical Technologist supervisor in our Roanoke, VA office to work in our Immunohematology Reference Lab (IRL) performing specialized testing to serve our local hospital clients. As a Blood Bank Supervisor you will be responsible for the daily operations in the reference laboratory; including supervising staff performing basic and advanced test procedures and interpreting complex test results to determine donor/recipient compatibility. Advise technologists in resolving compatibility problems, providing reference and consultation services to hospitals and transfusion facilities and in supplying antigen-negative units to transfusion recipients. Provide complex reference and consultation services to hospitals and transfusion services. Demonstrate excellent customer service, interpersonal skills and positive professional image. Assure compliance with safety policies and procedures in the work area. Assume responsibility for the laboratories compliance with standard operating procedures and interpretation of test results in accordance with the applicable regulatory requirements. Perform all duties in compliance with regulatory requirements. Other responsibilities include: * Consulting and communicating with the staff of hospitals and transfusion facilities to resolve serological problems and supply antigen-negative or special units to transfusion recipients. * Responsibility for the supervision of the laboratory staff including, but not limited to, hiring, training, coaching, evaluating and disciplining to ensure a well-qualified team and to enhance operational success. In conjunction with the Medical Director, provide guidance to ensure appropriate patient care. * Assure quality and adequacy of testing, reference and consultation services are maintained. * Perform, review and approve quality control on products, reagents, and equipment and validations. Assure required records and files are maintained. * Know and oversee compliance of applicable American Red Cross Blood Services (ARCBS) directives, federal, state and local policies, procedures, laws and regulations pertaining to blood banking and safety. Adhere to quality assurance procedures and good manufacturing practices. * May perform or assist in writing, organizing and maintaining departmental procedure manual. Perform duties associated with document development, implementation, and management. * May manage budgetary information for the department and provide approval for reagent and supply purchases. * Perform record review, training and competency assessments. Participate in concern and problem management. Provide internal and external education. Participate in external and internal inspections/audits and corrective actions. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in a biological or related field and SBB (ASCP)/equivalent required. Three years of high complexity blood bank testing experience required, including 1 year of management experience or training. Effective communication/interpersonal skill and excellent technical skills required.
