Job Summary:
The Lifespan Specialist (LS) position is a versatile position that focuses on consistency and support to clients at SDDC in all environments. The LS provides educational services for life skills development through groups, one-to-one opportunities, and activities. They assist with crisis intervention services, behavior management, and other individualized and specialized treatment services. They complete and review agency documents, as well as, provide supervision and support for people for appointments, activities, and visits from their admission to discharge.
Lifespan Specialist Medical position will work close with the medical team to help improve the overall health and well-being of the clients we support by attending medical appointments off and on campus, relaying important medical information to physicians and team members, as well as administering medications during appointments.
This position is full-time, 40 hours a week, with the Department of Human Services
Licenses and Certifications:
Must complete the South Dakota Medication Aide Certification course. A licensed nurse may delegate the administration of medications authorized only to unlicensed assistive personnel who have a minimum of high school education or the equivalent and who are registered with the Board of Nursing.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
A bachelor's degree in the human services, special education, or other related field is preferred but not required.
Experience working with adolescents or adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities or educational background in psychology, sociology, counseling, or another related field is requested.
Knowledge of:
counseling methods;
principles of basic human behavior;
problems experienced by and methods of supervising people with developmental disabilities;
CPR and first aid;
Crisis Prevention Intervention techniques;
medication administration;
patient's rights;
serious emotional disturbances.
Ability to:
This position is eligible for Veterans' Preference per ARSD 55:10:02:08.
