Job Summary:
Responsible for performing routine duties as directed by Laboratory Manager. Performs chemical, microscopic, serologic, hematologic, immunohematologic, parasitic, and bacteriologic tests to provide data for use in treatment and diagnosis of disease.

24 bed Rural Community Hospital
15 providers Rural Health Clinic
72 bed, high level care, Advanced Assisted Living Facility
42 apartment; low-moderate care level Assisted Living Facility

Education Background and Experience
Minimum Education:
Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology, Chemistry or Biology
Required Licensure / Certifications:
Certification/Licensure as a Medical Lab Scientist by ASCP(American Society for Clinical Pathology) or equivalent.
Professional Requirements
Maintain regulatory requirements.
Report to work on time and as scheduled; complete work within designated timelines.
Demonstrates the ability to adhere to the mission, ethics and goals of the District.
Demonstrates the ability to communicate with patients, guests and staff in a courteous, respectful and helpful manner.
Essential Job Functions
Ability to function in all areas of the clinical laboratory: blood bank, chemistry, hematology, microbiology, serology/immunology, urinalysis, and coagulation.
Demonstrates knowledge of new testing methods, products, instrumentation; remains informed on all current technologies.
Demonstrates knowledge of microbiological plating and staining procedures.
Responsible for performing high-complexity testing.
Correlates results with diagnosis; questions all incompatible results.
Consults with appropriate personnel when test findings are unusual and/or difficulties are encountered in testing.
Demonstrates the knowledge of proper identification and reporting of medical/health care errors. Protects the patient in the event of a medical/health care error and, as appropriate, assists in medical/health care error resolution.
Notifies patient care unit and/or physician of critical lab values.
Manages and operates laboratory equipment safely and correctly.
Follows Standard Precautions and infection control procedures at all times.
Performs quality control checks on equipment, performs calibrations and troubleshoots out-of-range results.
Performs quality control tests on reagents and stains, and documents results.
Performs proficiency testing as directed; samples will be tested in the same manner as patient samples and not referred to reference laboratories.
Compensation/How We Care For You:
Successful candidates typically begin between the beginning and midpoint of the compensation range ($ 31.13- $36.67/hour) dependent on qualifications/experience and receive compensation increment increases annually.
