Responsibilities:

  • Performs required procedures in the departmentaccording to protocol.

  • Makes proper decisions utilizing jobknowledge. Works in an independentmanner.

  • Demonstrates proficiency in the designated section.

  • Prioritizes work to ensure completions withinthe assigned shift and within expected intervals, i.e., Stat, Routine, and

Urgent.

  • Shares daily workload within the departmentincluding phlebotomy and processing.

  • Maintains good communication with supervisors,co-workers and customers. Respectspatient confidentiality. Demonstrates anawareness of patient/client expectations and always seeks to satisfy.

  • Demonstrates proficiency in all laboratorycomputer related tasks.

  • Performs and documents instrumentmaintenance. Performs quality controlaccording to established procedures. Troubleshoots instruments effectively when appropriate.

  • Understands and participates in laboratory QAplan, safety policies, emergency preparedness plan and infection control plan.

  • Understands/respects laboratory billingcompliance plan. Adheres to guidelines set forth in Lab Billing CompliancePlan. Attends Annual Billing Compliance Training and Annual Ethics Training.

  • Initiates and documents patientteaching, including family and /or significant others. Demonstrates knowledgeand skills necessary to provide care and assess data appropriate to the age ofthe patient served.

EXPERIENCE

Required

  • Graduate ofaccredited school of Clinical Laboratory Science.

Preferred

  • 1-2 yearsexperience as Medical Laboratory Technician

EDUCATION

Preferred

  • Associatedegree, Medical Laboratory Technology

CERTIFICATION

Required- ASCP/NCAeligible

Preferred- ASCP/NCAcertified

Able to perform a minimum of 40 venipunctures per eight-hour shift. * Demonstrates proficiency in all laboratory computer related tasks associated with processing and/or phlebotomy. * Shares daily workload in the phlebotomy/processing section including outpatient areas and reception/greeting tasks. * Prioritizes work to assure completion within the assigned shift and according to required TAT. * Exhibits an understanding of how the processing/phlebotomy areas contribute to the overall functioning of the laboratory. * Maintains good communication with team leaders, coworkers and customers. Respects patient confidentiality. * Exhibits excellent customer relations in dealings with patients, visitors, physicians, hospital staff and coworkers. * Understands and participates in laboratory QA plan, safety policies, emergency preparedness plan and infection control plan. * Understands/respects laboratory billing compliance plan.
