JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases of testing.

Follows standard operating procedures and ensures laboratory safety, quality and regulatory requirements are met. Serves as a laboratory resource to other health care personnel and collaborates with other departments across the enterprise.

Demonstrates critical and independent judgment in decision-making and problem-solving. Performs other related duties as assigned.

DEPARTMENT DETAILS

The Sheldon laboratory is part of a 25-bed critical access hospital in northwest Iowa. We service multiple providers and three outlying clinics.

We have many senior care facilities we proved care for as well as OB and pediatric practices. We provide services to many visiting specialists and doctors from surrounding communities. Our laboratory provides testing in hematology, chemistry, coagulation, blood bank, serology, and limited microbiology.

Our team works well together and has a small town family feel. Sheldon is a quiet community with many recreational opportunities, a community college, a great school system, and new housing and large community center. This is a PRN (as needed) position working varied shifts per department needs.

QUALIFICATIONS

Associates degree in Laboratory Science required.

Possess a national certification for Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Clinical Laboratory Technician (CLT) through an approved Health and Human Services (HHS) agency, for example American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP); or be registry eligible. Registry eligible candidates must successfully complete the Board of Registry examination within 12 months of employment.

If working in North Dakota (ND), must be licensed or have a provisional license, by the ND Board of Clinical Laboratory Practice. Maintain continuing education credits equivalent to the state requirements as needed for license and certifications. May be required to have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Bachelor's Degree in nursing preferred.
