Medical Laboratory Scientist

Medical Laboratory Scientist (McAlester Regional Health Center Authority) (McAlester, OK): Perform testing of specimens received in the laboratory and report the test results, according to established laboratory protocol and procedures; Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of patient test results accurately and efficiently; Adhere to laboratory quality assurance and quality control procedures, documenting quality control testing and corrective action; Report test results in a timely manner and according to established laboratory protocol and procedures; Identify and communicate abnormal patient conditions by alerting supervisory personnel, reporting mandated information to the public health departments or other designated officials; Perform maintenance and calibration on instruments and equipment as appropriate; Troubleshoot instruments, equipment, reagents, and patient specimens as needed; Comply with established laboratory and hospital policies for universal precautions and safety procedures; and Perform phlebotomy (venipunctures, fingersticks, bleeding times) as appropriate for the patient requiring the procedure. Must have experience with the following in order to complete the above-mentioned tasks:

Knowledge of medical laboratory science; Experience performing clinical laboratory specimen collection and evaluation; Experience performing microscopic examination of body fluids to identify various disease states; Experience troubleshooting maintaining, and calibrating medical laboratory analyzers and equipment; Experience testing blood, body fluid, and tissue specimens and preparing reports for physicians; and Experience collecting venous, arterial, and capillary blood samples from patients of all ages. Requires a Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science or related field, and at least 1 year of occupational experience as a Medical Technologist or similar occupation. ASCP, AMT or equivalent certification required.
