Your Role:

From diagnostic samples to acutely accurate results, in turn providing life-sustaining and life-saving treatments for patients is all in a days work. As a Medical Laboratory Assistant you will play a vital role in the process.

As a Medical Laboratory Assistant you will assist the Clinical Laboratory Scientist with routine specimen processing in accordance with protocols established by Ascend Clinical (AC). You will process specimens, perform some test preparation, specimen verification and tracking, all related clerical functions and general clean-up tasks. You will also assist in placing specimens on automated instruments and bringing them to the Clinical Laboratory Scientist for review, documentation and computer verification.

  • Knows and complies with AC policies and procedures: general policies and Exposure Control (bloodborne pathogens), Chemical Hazard, Illness and Injury Prevention Program and Quality Assurance Program. Understands the hazards associated with failing to follow those procedures.

  • Understands laboratory workflow and the role of Preanalytics in the laboratory.

  • Organizes work for large batch processing appropriately. Prioritizes tasks and organizes work for efficient completion.

  • Documents in a clear, concise and thorough manner. Sees that all paperwork is completed properly during the shift.

  • Performs all tasks necessary for the safe, smooth and efficient operation of the unit. This may include but is not limited to the following:

  • Unpacks, sorts, incoming samples.

  • Receives and processes specimens for routine analysis.

  • Assist with specimen handling, archiving, and centrifuging.

  • Organize reference testing for scheduled pickup.

  • Works with Client Services to resolve problem specimens.

  • Assists in the following under direct supervision of a CLS.

  • Sets up automated instruments.

  • Performs quality control procedures on instruments.

  • Performs routine testing on automated instruments.

  • Performs minor hardware troubleshooting on automated instruments.

  • Actively participates in facility's Quality Assurance program.

  • Assists in orientation of new staff members, as directed by Management.

  • Assumes responsibility for special projects, as directed by Management.

Your Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required, college preferred.

  • Prior job experience recommended, but not required.

  • Background in chemistry, math, medical terminology, knowledge of specimen preparation techniques, and principles of operation of common laboratory instruments.

  • Ability to follow instructions with accuracy and perform detailed tasks thoroughly and completely.

  • Capability of performing repetitive work with a high degree of precision.

  • Capability of working biologic specimens in a safe manner.

  • Capability of maintaining high standards for all production work with timely completion.

  • Good organizational skills.

  • Able to read, write, speak, understand and communicate.

This position will involve 3 to 5 mornings a week including weekends starting at either 6am or 8am, and working 6 to 8 hours per shift. Your Role: At Ascend Clinical we turn diagnostic samples into life-sustaining and life-saving diagnostic results for the patients served by our clients. As a Preanalytics Associate, you will play a vital role in the process. A Preanalytics Associate works in conjunction with Preanalytics processing routine specimens in accordance with protocols established by Ascend Clinical. As a Preanalytics Associate youll process specimens, perform some test preparations, do specimen verification and tracking, as well as all related clerical functions and general clean-up tasks. Youll specialize in preparing specimens for blood collection which includes, but not limited to, labeling tubes, bagging and shipping collection kits. The successful applicant will be able to perform these essential duties satisfactorily. The following are representative of these duties.
