We are looking for a Medical Lab Technologist (40 hours per week) in our Gaithersburg, MD location.

Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:30am-5:00pm

Position Summary:

The Medical Laboratory Technologist will perform all necessary laboratory testing in the detection, diagnosis, and prognosis of disease. The Medical Laboratory Technician will work collaboratively with the laboratory team to provide testing services to the clients in a prompt, accurate, and reliable manner according to established company and departmental policies and procedures. Additional tasks can be assigned at the discretion of the Supervisor/Manager/Director.

Position Responsibilities:

Duties may include but are not necessarily limited to the following:

  • Follows written lab procedures for the correct handling and processing of specimens. Performs lab procedures of moderate and high complexity in accordance with standards set forth in sectional laboratory procedures.

  • Maintains an up to date working knowledge of all technical procedures in the department and operations of all instrumentation. Reviews all pertinent SOPMs. Manipulate and operate simple and complex laboratory equipment including computers; may perform maintenance and limited tear down and replacement of parts of laboratory equipment; problem-solve equipment malfunctions.

  • Assists in the orientation and training of new employees. Participates in the training of technical staff and monitors their progress with supervisor. Serves as a resource to peers and other personnel.

  • Performs quality control procedures established for each method and maintains accurate records. Reviews and analyzes quality control data, identifies QC trends or problems, makes judgments and takes appropriate corrective action. Prior to releasing any test results. (If applicable)

  • Operates laboratory instruments and performs routine maintenance & procedural calibrations. Diagnoses, troubleshoots and documents all lab instrument and / or reagent problems. Performs preventative and corrective maintenance/repairs and maintains records of actions. Contacts technical services representatives when necessary to resolve problems.

  • Reviews accuracy and completeness of results prior to releasing in the Laboratory Information System (if applicable). Recognizes unexpected or unreasonable results and/or testing delays.

  • Follows protocols for acceptance/rejection of patient results.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology, Chemistry, Biology, or Related life Science.

  • One year of relevant work experience in a CLIA laboratory.

  • Hematology & Manual Differential experience Required

  • ASCP or other national certification a plus.

Work Environment:

  • Medium work of lifting up to 50 pounds and/or carrying objects weighing up to 25 pounds.

  • Responsible for lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects.

We are looking for a Floater Phlebotomist (40 hours per week) in our Gaithersburg, MD location. Schedule: HOURS AND DAYS VARY BASED ON THE NEEDS OF THE CLIENT Position Summary: The Phlebotomist aims to serve patients by preparing specimens for laboratories testing and performing screening standards. The Phlebotomist shall draw quality blood samples while creating an atmosphere of trust and confidence. Position Responsibilities: Duties may include but are not necessarily limited to the following: * Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information, etc. * Greet customers appropriately. Treat all customers in a courteous manner. * Collects specimens according to established procedures. Properly explains in a clear but courteous manner the process of the venipuncture (blood drawing) and or other specimen collection (ex. urine or fecal) as required. Reduces patient anxiety by providing a calm environment for patients before, during and after the collection process. * Demonstrate technique/s using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. * Fully understand all of the physicians' orders. * Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order. * Check all test requisitions or computer label against script to ensure 100% correct. * Package specimens for transport * Stores specimen sample according to required temperature, places samples in appropriate collection container/ tube, accurately labels, follows different procedures as outlined by specific to protocol deemed necessary for transport to maintain integrity of the specimen. * Demonstrates proficiency of proper collection methods and proper processing of all specimens * Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. * Attend annual department trainings * Answer telephone calls, read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries. Minimum Qualifications: * Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where you will be employed as required (CA & LA require license, FL requires certification) * Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast paced lab or hospital setting * Reliable transportation with at least 4 years of licensed driving experience and possess a valid driver's license issued in the state of residence. * Successfully pass pre-employment (post offer) drug screen and MVR. * Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite * High School Diploma or GED Preferred Qualifications: * Excellent patient interaction skills both in person and by phone * Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently BioReference Laboratories is an Equal Opportunity Employer Bio-Reference Laboratorie Gaithersburg MD
