JOB SUMMARY The Medical Lab Technician MLT performs laboratory analyses, evaluates laboratory results and reports results. Recognizes and solves basic laboratory problems and assists in maintenance of laboratory systems. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education: Associate degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution. Experience: N/A Licensure/Certification/Registration: Within six (6) months of hire, ASCP certification as Medical Lab Technician (MLT). PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Education: N/A Experience: N/A Licensure/Certification/Registration: N/A KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Knowledge of lab safety practices; knowledge of all lab departments state of the art policies and procedures; knowledge of general lab test results and correlation#s with physiological condition; ability to maintain and repair instrumentation and equipment; ability to understand and follow complex oral and written communication; extensive ability to perform duties accurately, efficiently while often under stress; ability to organize work and meet deadlines; ability to be technically adept in all departments of the laboratory; ability to be rigidly accurate in the identification and reporting of numbers, names and results. # READING - Intermediate: Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. WRITING - Intermediate: Ability to write routine reports, correspondence, or procedures. SPEAKING - Intermediate: Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one, small group situations or before groups of customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS - Intermediate Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals and to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw or interpret bar graphs to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. REASONING ABILITY - Intermediate Skills: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
