Responsibilities and Qualifications

Medical Lab Technician II:

The Medical Laboratory Technician II is part of the provider care team who helps with diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of patient conditions through the use of technical and scientific knowledge. This position is responsible for accurate, precise, and timely performance of laboratory tests.

The Medical Laboratory Technician II evaluates and reports test results while assuring compliance and meeting all regulatory requirements consistent with the quality of a World Class Laboratory. The Medical Laboratory Technician II will be required to exhibit excellent customer service skills in line with Mercy Signature Service in all internal and external customer interactions.

Medical Lab Technician III:

The Medical Laboratory Technician III is part of the provider care team who helps with diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of patient conditions through the use of technical and scientific knowledge. This position is responsible for accurate, precise, and timely performance of laboratory tests.

The Medical Laboratory Technician III evaluates and reports test results while assuring compliance and meeting all regulatory requirements consistent with the quality of a World Class Laboratory. The Medical Laboratory Technician III will be required to exhibit excellent customer service skills in line with Mercy Signature Service in all internal and external customer interactions.

Medical Technologist II:

Under direct supervision of the Laboratory Supervisor or Manager, the employee will perform all work in accordance with the mission, vision, and values of Mercy Hospital Logan County. The Medical Technologist in the "trouble shooting" capacity is responsible for correctly assessing the accuracy of registration and ordering of testing which comes into the laboratory; the specimen requirements conditions and appropriateness of volume, timing of procurement, and possible contaminates; the accuracy of assay results and maintaining appropriate turn around times for each specimen; any documentation which applies to the specimen or results; the proper storage of specimens after all activity is complete.

Proficiency is required in all areas of the laboratory for all aspects of clinical laboratory medicine. This responsibility encompasses all testing in all the departments with in the laboratory which include, phlebotomy, processing, hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, coagulation, serology, blood bank, and microbiology. As a functioning integral of Central Processing, this position requires the working knowledge of Client Services, Central Processing, all aspects of all laboratory departments, billing and reporting of work performed.

The job requires the expertise of computer module use including CPSI, and other applicable modules like Microsoft Office. Decision making involves the entire laboratory in general concerning safety, staffing, emergencies in the hospital which might involve the lab. It is also critical for this position to function as a definitive source in problem solving in associated areas.

  • Trouble shooting activities involved in association with Central processing and client service.

  • Perform and report laboratory testing.

  • Perform all required maintenance, quality control, calibration, and repair of instruments and/or methods.

  • Effectively communicate with staff/sections to keep all staff and shifts informed of current status of instruments and/or patient results.

  • Willingly assist with phlebotomy, secretarial and other job related duties as needed.

Medical Technologist III:The Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Scientist III is part of the provider care team who helps with diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of patient conditions through the use of technical and scientific knowledge. This position is responsible for accurate, precise, and timely performance of laboratory tests.

This position will be required to function as the lead technologist in the supervisors absence. Medical Technologists/Medical Laboratory Scientists III evaluate and report test results while assuring compliance and meeting all regulatory requirements consistent with the quality of a World Class Laboratory. The Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Scientist III will be required to exhibit excellent customer service skills in line with Mercy Signature Service in all internal and external customer interactions.

Medical Lab Technician II:

Education: Associate degree in major acceptable for a certification agency requirements

Experience: Up to two years acceptable clinical laboratory experience as a certified MLT or equivalent or certification eligible new MLT graduate

Certifications: Current certification as medical laboratory technician through the American Society for Clinical Pathology or equivalent If ASCP certification was achieved after January 1, 2004, continuing certification maintenance must be documented to insure continuous and current certification Certification eligible individuals must achieve certification within 6 months of hire

Medical Lab Technician III:

Education: Associate degree in major acceptable for a certification agency requirements.Experience:

Three years acceptable clinical laboratory experience.Certifications: Current certification as medical laboratory technician through the American Society for Clinical Pathology or equivalent. If ASCP certification was achieved after January 1, 2004, continuing certification maintenance must be documented to insure continuous and current certification.

Medical Technologist II:

Education: Graduate of a MT program or equivalent (BS or AS degree in a science related field with 3 years minimum clinical lab experience in accessioning and processing). Experience:

Graduate of a MT program or equivalent (BS or AS degree in a science related field with 3 years minimum clinical lab experience in accessioning and processing). Certifications: Successfully pass ASCP board of registry or equivalent within one year of hire date.Preferred Education: Graduate of a MT program.Preferred Experience: Candidates are preferred to have minimum 5 years experience in a clinical laboratory setting.

Medical Technologist III:Education: Bachelors degree required

Experience: Four years or more of acceptable clinical laboratory experience. Functions as a leader in laboratory operations

Certifications: Current certification as medical technologist/medical laboratory scientist or categorical MT/MLS certification through the American Society for Clinical Pathology or equivalent If ASCP certification was achieved after January 1, 2004, continuing certification maintenance must be documented to insure continuous and current certification Other:

Responsibilities and Qualifications The Laboratory Support Technician (LST II) is part of the provider care team acting in a support capacity for reports, data and scheduling functions of the laboratory. This position is responsible for accurate, timely and effective provision of laboratory support mechanisms. The LST II will be required to exhibit excellent customer service skills in line with the Mercy Signature Service Standards with all customer interactions.
