Responsible for working within the established guidelines of the Laboratory Department as assigned. As a professional, the MLT/CLT is responsible for carrying out the philosophy and objectives. Foremost among these responsibilities are adhering to detail in the technical performance of laboratory procedures, solving practical and analytical problems, resolving conflict, and implementing constructive change.

Responsibilities
MLT/CLT
Performs careful and accurate work in any technical area as assigned.
Performs tests within specified turnaround time for assigned area.
Assures that QA guidelines are strictly adhered to before reporting any laboratory result.
Complies with methodologies, procedures and services in consultation with the assigned laboratory supervisor.
Participates in performing and documenting routine instrument maintenance as assigned.
Documents all necessary information in the performance of technical procedures.
Has appropriate training and performs blood collections from all age groups.
Basic UPH Performance Criteria
Demonstrates the UnityPoint Health Values and Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to policies and procedures and safety guidelines.
Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance.
Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA, CAP and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements

Education:
Associate degree in a science-related field with a certificate of completion from a Medical Laboratory Technician program from an accredited institution.
Experience:
Less than one year
Six months clinical internship
License(s)/Certification(s):
Certified as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent. May be hired into this position if he/she has completed the requirements for registration but has not successfully completed the MLT exam; however, the exam must be successfully completed within 6 months subsequent to hiring.

Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English.

Critical thinking skills using independent judgment in making decisions.

Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.

Shift: 1st shift, 6:00 am
2:30 pm, Monday
Friday, for 80 hours per pay period. There is a holiday and a every third weekend rotation.;
