The Medical Lab Scientist III performs laboratory testing of patient specimens in one or more sections of the laboratory.
Performs diagnostic/analytic testing of specimens. Interprets, documents and reports test results.
Performs quality control testing, instrument maintenance and troubleshooting.
Verifies analytic accuracy, precision, sensitivity and references ranges for test methods.
Serves as a resource to staff as needed.
Meets Medical Lab Scientist II expectations.
Participates in activities that result in product standardization and cost savings or cost control. Coordinates daily operation of section/shift including inventory, performance management of equipment and quality control/assurance.
Assists lead/manager with regulatory requirements including collating data for inspections and writing procedures/policies per CLSI (NCCLS) standards.
Collaborates with department lead or manager to meet identified needs/goals of the departments. Supports the liaison program with developing needs and information for other areas of the healthcare team. Functions as a lead technician in the lead's absence as required.
Performs other duties as assigned.
May be required to be "on-call."
One or more of the following:
Certified Medical Laboratory Scientist credentialed from the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC) .
Bachelor's Level Degree
Bachelor's degree in a related field is required and Two (2) years of laboratory experience at the level of a Medical Laboratory Scientist II is required. May substitute for all of the required experience with one of the following specialty certifications: Specialist in Blood Banking SBB(ASCP), Microbiology SM(ASCP), Hematology SH(ASCP), Chemistry SC(ASCP), Cytotechnology SCT(ASCP), or Lab Safety SLS(ASCP); or Diplomate in Laboratory Management DLM(ASCP).
