The Medical Lab Scientist ASCP organizes and performs the daily activities of his or her assigned sections. The section(s) may be Chemistry, Blood Bank, Hematology, Microbiology or Immunology. The MLS ensures that performing the daily activities and the validity of test results and quality control are completed for the specific section to which he/she is assigned.

EDUCATION REQUIRED AND/OR PREFERRED:

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology (MT), Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or related sciences including a practical training program. Associates degree is acceptable. HHS/HEW must have appropriate years of experience.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

  • Nationally recognized certification as a Medical Technologist (MT/MLS or MLT) from the American Society for Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or equivalent. This licensure must be complete within 1 year of hire.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Must complete practical training program.

This position is primarily responsible for assisting physicians in the Invasive Cardiology Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory (CCL)/Electrophysiology Laboratory (EP) activities, including diagnostic and therapeutic cardiac procedures within an inpatient or outpatient environment. The position is responsible for following standard procedures and functions as part of the invasive cardiology team. With proper training and knowledge of other functions within the cardiology services, may perform other duties related to clinical diagnostic testing and/or operational tasks that manifest a teamwork environment.
