Job Description:

Seeking PRN, Medical Interpreter, fluent in English and Spanish to provide interpretation and translation services for patients, family members and staff in pediatric hospital setting. Services include, listening to, understanding and interpreting spoken, or translating written, statements and documents from one language to another, in support of the medical treatment plan.

In addition , the medical interpreter will provide language and cultural support to patients and families and identify any cultural or language barriers to care. This service will require face-to-face interpreting between patients and providers and may also include family members or patient representatives. May also require providing cultural information to the care team to facilitate adherence to treatment plan and regulatory requirements. Must have strong communication and negotiation skills and ability to proactively identify, communicate and advocate for identified patient/family needs within the framework of interdisciplinary team.

Job Requirements

High School Diploma or GED

Flexible availability

Bilingual in English-Spanish

Minimum 1 year of Medical Terminology

Requires 40 hours of accepted professional interpreter training such as Bridging the Gap or the Community Interpreter

Prefer 1 year experience in clinical medical interpretation

Medical Interpretation Certification a plus

Assist in maintaining an accredited cancer program. Responsibilities * Cancer Registry Abstract and enter all cancer cases for patients seen at Cincinnati Children's within local and ACOS guidelines. Maintain long-term follow up information for patient cases for required period of time. Perform basic data searches for research and service line initiatives. Contribute to a minimum of two patient care studies each year with comparisons to national or international data to evaluate treatment and survival outcome. Responsible for the real-time abstraction of additional data parameters in miscellaneous oncology databases to supplement the cancer registry database, working closely with CBDI Application Specialists for enhancements and troubleshooting. Regularly attend patient review meetings, tumor boards, and oncology grand rounds to gather and/or report information. * Reporting/Presentations Report cancer cases as required by state and national law. Produce slides, reports, and other materials for presentation to local, state, national and international clinical, research, or professional groups. Review reports from the Division of Pathology monthly to ensure compliance with ACOS/CAP standards. Maintain and annually update the Cancer Registry manual, as assigned. Accurately review admissions, deaths, new cancer patients and other volume indicators to report to CBDI Leadership as requested. * Department Operations Work closely with physicians, hospital administrators, and health care practitioners to maintain ongoing records of the cancer patient's history diagnosis, treatment, and outcome. Assist in maintaining an accredited cancer program by the Commission of Cancer of the American College of Surgeons through a physician survey every three years. Assist with cancer committee activities. Coordinate accurate and timely staging of all applicable cancer cases using current staging standards. Maintain currency in the field of Cancer Registry through continuing education and seminars. * Supervision Serve as internal resource for colleagues, provide guidance, training, mentorship and supervision for other registry staff. Skills & Competencies * Communication - Advanced Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. * Computer Skills Advanced personal computer skills including word processing, graphics database management, and tumor registry software programs * Interpersonal Skills Strong organizational and interpersonal skills (detail oriented). * Presentation/Organization Strong presentation, organizational and writing skills required.
